Horror films create a lot of sequels, prequels or alternates cause they are low-budgeted and if the films are successful they create it again because they just want to scare people and it has a big gap between low budgets and high grosses! So why they didn't do these on action or fantasy or science fiction films cause they focus on epic high big budget and this makes people to surely see this a multiple times to contribute that budget esp the fans!
Harry Potter & James Bond was the most successful multiple movie franchise in history with over 6 films ( I call it multiple or poly-series if a franchise has more than 6 projects despite it has spin-offs,prequels,reboots or alternates)

@zender I seen the remake of Nightmare on Elm Street a few times and I like it a lot. I think people didn't like it that much because they kept trying to compare it to the original and they tried comparing Haley to Englund for the role of Freddy. If you do stupid stuff like that you will not like it. Anyway Wes Craven the creator of NOES stole aspect of NOES from a movie called Dead & Buried(1981). Also Wes new movie coming out called My Soul To Take uses aspects of NOES in the movie. In my mind Wes is the biggest baby/hack in Hollywood today. That is sad to say since he use to be great.

I agree with you the remake was terrible.
I also agree that Saw 3D will pick it up the franchise, but what ever the out come I guess we have to wait.
One of my old friends keeps telling me it'll be 13 films not 8, but no body really knows how high up it'll go. By the way, did anyone like the new Nightmare on Elm street, my nephew told me it was aweful.

Of course I was talking about the original Psycho. The remake was terrible. As for Saw going up to 13 movies that would only happen if the series remains successful. And in the eyes of Lionsgate Saw 6 wasn't that big of a success. Even though it made over 20 million in profit. Saw 3D should do better than that. I believe Saw 3D will make at least 100 million dollars worldwide and I think it can go as high as 150 million worldwide which means Saw 8 will happen. But it won't be released in 2011. They will take a break and release in it 2012.

Are you talking about the old film or the newer one with Vince.
The old classic was and still is awesome
Last I heard and I will repeat this once again, heard that they intend to go as far as 13 films for this one franchise. let the horror commence

@deoxy You are a joke and give us true Saw fans a bad name. I can name one ghorror movie that is not just about gore. Have you ever heard of one the the greatest horror movies ever called Psycho? It was very little blood. Very little.

@marcusx They did want to make an 8th movie and actually greenlit parts 7 & 8 even before part 6 came out last year. But after the "bad box office results" which is crazy since it made big profit they decided to turn parts 7 & 8 into one movie. But I do agree with you than if Saw 3D is a success there will be an 8th movie(which it will be since the budget is low and it should easily make 100 million dollars worldwide). But I also read that if they do go ahead with an 8th movie they were gong to take a year off and wait til 2012.
As for your other point I wouldn't mind them keeping the series going if they came up with good ideas. And if James Wan and Leigh Whannell(creators of Saw) stay on as producers I really no problem with them continuing it.

Of course Dr Gordon is either a partner of Jigsaw or behind the whole thing. How anybody can not notice the limp of the guy in the pig mask that kidnaps and does the surgical procedures is beyond me. Also every detective that has investigated in the victims of jigsaws traps are killed except for the one detective that investigated Dr Gordons disappearance and who was that man you ask: Dectective Hoffman. Hoffman protected Gordon from becoming seen by the public. Jigsaws ex wife Jill went to a hospital way out of town to drop off a package to a doctor. Its a safe bet that Gordon was working at that hospital under a false name so nobody would recognize him. Gordon working under that flase name is the best explanation to Jigsaw having all of that medical equipment in Saw 3. He was Dr Gordons patient and Gordon was his.

Maybe...
I mean, we all have our opinions on how we would run Hollywood. I personally don't like 3D. To me, its not really worth the money and I hate those damn glasses. But I do see your point. However, do you think this will be the last like they said? I read something a ways back that they were doing an 8th. I think that Hollywood itself has a one-track mind and that basically is the thought that "if it makes money, we will keep on doing it" - this usually results in the destruction of a beloved franchise, much like this one.

@marcusx A couple points I would like to take you to task on:
First is while you were right that Saw 4 was useless. But Saw 5(even though it was bad) gave us a great story with SAW 6. And a lot of people agree that Saw 6 got the series back on track.
And second is that they choose two make the movie in 3D for a couple reason. The series is suppose to be over this and they want to go out on a high note in terms of success. Also 3D horror movies are doing huge business right now. Even the remake of Piranha(a small horror movie from the 70s) made over 60 million dollars with 3D. Just imagine what Saw can do in 3D. My main point on this subject is that if you or I were running Lionsgate we would be jumping all over the 3D because it is a very smart business choice right now.

I disagree with everyone in support of this franchise. Bottom Line:
In a horrible economic collapse, Hollywood tends to play it safe with using the names of successful franchises in order to make a profit (Karate Kid as a prime example). Thus they will continue a story even if it doesnt necessarily need a sequel, prequel, reboot (Spider-Man as a prime example-the only reason this series was rebooted was not only because Raimi is a moron, but becuase it was too costly to use the same actors again-clearly why the killed off Osborn played by J.Franco - With Andrew Garfield, they could continue the exploits of the wall crawler at less than half the cost since he is basically a nobody at this point)
Overall, this series could have ended much sooner. Saw 4 was pointless and most of the sequels were as well. But because people love death (LOVE IT) and gore (love it MORE) people will continue to see films they are familiar with even if they blow. This series has been dead longer than Jigsaw himself. The only reason Hollywood continued was to make a quick few Million.
Anyone who disagrees with that has a hard time swallowing the facts and lives a life of denial (and probably supports the theory that Justin Bieber is the greatest R&B artist of all time, Kristen Stewart should keep acting and that Aaron Seltzer & Jason Friedberg are funny)
Give it up, stop bitching and just accept this is a ploy to take your hard earned dollars (even more so proven the fact that this series has gone the way of 3D which costs in some cases over $20.00)

It's gonna be Dr. Gordon. Like I've been saying since part 2. Hasn't anyone noticed that Cary Elwes is in the cast line-up? Why else would he be there?
Cmon people, go with me here..
Dr. Gordon "cuts off his foot" then "goes to get help". We can either assume that he got help or that he dies of blood loss out in the hallway. If he got help, then there would be no movie.. If he died, we would see his body laying in the hallway in one of the following movies.
Despite the fact that John (Jigsaw) is a very talented engineer, it would be ignorant to assume that he can do all of his work without any prior medical/anatomic experience or information from say... a consultant/partner?
It's the only possible solution that no one would see coming. Except for me, of course..=]

@moviegeek. well it's not the definition of saw in the fact that there is no 'murderer' in saw. he sets up the traps in the movies and there is always a way out. the victims do not have to die if they dont want to, they just either have to get out of the trap or make the correct moral decision to be released from it. technically there is no murderer in the saw series. there isn't some lumbering idiot with a machete or a guy with a glove that can kill you in your dreams for sequel after sequel. not to mention that there really are no chase scenes in SAW. there are no scenes of a stupid teen running through the forest to trip on a branch or another running through a house only to run UPSTAIRS and get killed, etc etc. the victims in saw are abducted quietly and efficiently. no chase scene required.
so to my point of 'murderer-chase scene-kill-repeat', it still stands as these elements are not present in the saw movies. it's not a 'hack 'n slash' series.
and i agree with @thedude1 with his comments about the story needing to be followed to be understood. that was more to the point of what i was originally trying to say. not just that 'THE TWISTS MAKE IT COOL AND IT'S DUMBED DOWN ENOUGH FOR MY FEEBLE BRAIN TO GRASP'.
