Fast Five Sequel Is Moving Forward Says Justin Lin

Director Justin Lin and Vin Diesel will likely reunite for a Fast Five sequel
After Fast Five's record-breaking $86.2 million opening weekend, it's no surprise to hear director Justin Lin discuss a sequel. He has essentially guaranteed that a sequel will happen, which means he will return to direct.

"After this big weekend, we're going forward. It's pretty much 100 percent. It's going to happen."

Last month we reported that Universal hired Fast & Furious and Fast Five screenwriter Chris Morgan to write a sixth movie in the franchise, although it isn't known what the title is quite yet. While Fast Five is set in Rio de Janeiro, Justin Lin says they plan to use another location for this untitled sequel.

"We'll be going elsewhere."

While it seems likely that Vin Diesel and Paul Walker will return for a sixth movie, it isn't clear if it will be a franchise ensemble like Fast Five, which featured cast members from the first four installments.

Fast Five was released April 29th, 2011 and stars Vin Diesel, Paul Walker, Jordana Brewster, Tyrese Gibson, Ludacris, Matt Schulze, Sung Kang, Gal Gadot. The film is directed by Justin Lin.

After the success and good reviews for Fast Five its no surprise Justin Lin will be back with another sequel but sometimes the saying "Quit while your ahead" is a good quote to live by but the after-credits scene was freakin hair raising sooooo....i'm game. For one more at least.

i like how they suggerst that simply because of the opening weekend, is why they're making a 6th movie, like they had forgotten about the scene in the credits or the rocks promise, in the movie, that he would find toretto. they had part 6 planned long before the opening weekend. hell i'll bet that the screenplay is already written. this is just mumbo-jumbo. nothing more than them playing off the obvious. whatever the case, i hope part 6 is as good as part 5. i'll be there to see it.

@thedude-abides He's like a learned stock broker. He watches those numbers religiously, figures out which genres sell better then others, also based on popularity of franchises, and timing and advertisement of course, and comes up with the accurate figures.

@elmaschingon They could always have American muscle cars in another country, it's not impossible, ya know :)

For the last one, bring back The Rock, Eva Mendes, Vin/Paul/Jordana obviously, Rodriguez, Ludacris. Everyone else I could care less about, especially Tyrese. Most annoying and useless character.

They said in Fast Five it was "one last heist", I should've realised that's never the case.

This'll be awesome, Fast Five was by far the best one and it needs a sequel!

I'm still waiting for Lin to tie these up with Tokyo Drift, I wanna see Lucas Black reprising his role!

man as long as they bring EVERY one back again then hell, yea, eva mendes cameo at the end was like yessss... im totally down for a 6th, set in like italy... but then that would cramp dom's style of american muscle... but hey im excited. fast five was excellent.

@moviegeek @thedude-abides I've been giving him credit for his predictions for a while now. @moviegeek is movieweb's BO accountant. Guy knows his niche and accurately forecasts results.

@thedude-abides Almost definitely. It doesn't have the broad appeal of cars, hunks, and babes. Comic book movies tend to have a lot of cross-over, but not ones like this that look sooo comic-y. For the most part, people aren't convinced that this won't be dumb. (because it really does look dumb). I think it will do well in the long run. But it won't open extraordinarily.

@moviegeek You'd literally be set for life. No joke. You could be like Matt McConaughey's character in Two For the Money and have clients who pay you based on your knowledge every single week for every single movie that's released. That's a real gift you have, my friend.
