Ezra Miller reading for Tetsuo in Akira
Tetsuo is a young man who develops telekinetic abilities, which the government wants to harvest for their own means. The story follows Kaneda, who tries to rescue his brother from these experiments. We also reported last month that Gary Oldman and Helena Bonham Carter were offered the roles of The Colonel and Lady Miayko, although it is not known if they have accepted the offers.
Jaume Collet-Serra is directing Akira from a screenplay by Albert Torres and Steve Kloves. It isn't known when production may start on Akira.
Akira comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Garrett Hedlund, Kristen Stewart, Ken Watanabe. The film is directed by Jaume Collet-Serra.

@summit10 yes your right of course. Until i see it i cant judge this. But this movie means so much to me. It was my first anime experience and well...if your into anime then you will never forget your first real anime movie/tv show. \

if they gonna choose caucasian actor to play japanese character with japanese name take place in neo tokyo populated with japanese. they got to change the name to western name & change loacation neo manhantan not neo tokyo

This whole article made me want to drop kick a bitch. They ARE NOT brothers. They are best friends, as Summit said, from the same orphanage. If they go with a story based on brothers I will be highly disappointed. And I have to go with Yannick on this one. If you are going to make a movie about Asian teenages in NEO-TOKYO then you have to use asian actors period. I dont understand what the prob is with Hollywood being afraid to do so it seems.

I defended the right not to necessarily have to cast an Asian actor for Goku in DBE, but here, there's just no excuse. Hire Asian actors Hollywood, in lead roles, especially if you're gonna adapt a Japanese story centered around two Japanese characters with Japanese names in Japan. It's 2011, really, it's time.
