Wes Craven doesn't ever plan to return to A Nightmare On Elm Street
Now that Wes Craven, original creator of the that film's iconic slasher Freddy Krueger, has returned to Woodsboro for Scream 4, some fans have speculated that he may eventually return to A Nightmare on Elm Street as well somewhere down the line. After all, he did produce a remake of his very own The Last House on the Left.
Well, the answer to that from the man himself is a firm and resounding, "No!"
We recently had the chance to speak with Wes Craven about dragging ol' Ghostface out of the mothballs, and we were forced to pose this question to him: Now that the Nightmare on Elm Street remake has disappointed nearly every fan of Freddy Krueger, do you think you will ever return to that character?
Here is his response:
"No! I have no ownership in it. The original people I did it with are all gone. If you have no control or ownership when it comes to those things, and its being taken over by other people, you tend to lose interest. There are much more creative situations that I can get myself into, rather than a situation where I would be working for someone else who is exploiting something I created. It wouldn't be a very happy situation."
So no new Freddy for the foreseeable future. Sorry, horror fans.

IMO being a huge Freddy fan, i thought the remake was real faithfull to the original, and I enjoyed it. All it did was twist the story a little and gave it a modern makeover, thats all. But still, the originals are much better

that's less "unwilling" and more bitterness for having his property (whether owned by him legally or not) stripped from him without any respect for his work in that universe. can't say i blame him.

The first three were great, but the rest of the old series was ruined by humor. I refuse to even watch the remake.

i would rather he not tarnish his beloved creation. No time for freddy but definatly time for 2 more Scream moves. Now there is some awesome logic.

@dan1 You took the words right from my mouth and you are indeed 100 percent correct.
And can anyone tell me how the hell MovieWeb can actually say the remake of NOES was a "financial flop"? The budget was 35 million and it made 115 million dollars. That is a HUGE success. This is pretty much just MovieWeb sucking the dick of Wes Craven.

The only good Nightmares were the original, and Dream Warriors. Warriors was pretty campy, but it had a fun cast and is a staple of 80's horror and culture. The rest are garbage and continue to be garbage.

The remake was sooo terrible; I was truely disappointed. Platinum Dune's movies are all alike, same look and feel, terrible acting, great iconic characters surrounded by garbage marketed well.

Good story....only one problem. the end says "So no new Freddy for the foreseeable future. Sorry, horror fans." You should have said with Wes. Watching you Orange :)

Its simple, Nightmare on elm street 1, 2 and "the final nightmare" were great, the rest should have been str8 to dvd, The remake was good too, just that freddy him self was to short. big dead small body. and on top of his looks, the story was to short and needed more/better deaths. the house wasnt even the same . there was no sign of the dad who was a cop in the 1st film., still a good reboot tho. whoever hates the remake, is old fashion.. admit it, it wasnt the best film but it wasnt the worst.

the remake never should have happened
I saw it though and thought it was ok
again though Hollywood always finds a chance to ruin an iconic horror film
now Craven has gone into a dark pit, he may succeed again with Scream 4 but it may be longer for him to find new ground to cover

every fan of freddy kruger should have been disappointed from nightmare 4 on. he was never the same after that. it became a comedy series, not a horror one. i've been disappointed in this series for 20 years. horror movies need to go back to the days of true originals like carpenter and craven and hooper, instead of this glammy/glossy garbage that comes out nowadays.

@brian Yeah, I find that Movieweb is trying to be more and more like ComicBookMovie.com, becoming more CBM focused, everyday but then again the film market is filled with comic book based properties now a days so...
