During our recent interview with Wes Craven for the Paris, Je T'Aime DVD release, we got the director to chime in on New Line Cinema's proposed prequel to A Nightmare On Elm Street.

Can you give us any news on the development of the A Nightmare On Elm Street prequel?

Wes Craven: No, I couldn't, because I'm not privy to any information about it. (Laughs) No, it's true. I haven't heard anything about it. I've been kind of buried in my own projects. But New Line hasn't contacted me, or anything like that.

Can you give us any word on anything that you're working on right now?

Wes Craven: Yeah, well... let's just say that a couple of projects that we've been developing are looking like they might well go forward, but I think right now we're still not making the official press release. There are going to be a couple of things going forward in the coming months, for sure.

A Nightmare on Elm Street was released November 16th, 1984 and stars John Saxon, Ronee Blakley, Heather Langenkamp, Amanda Wyss, Jsu Garcia, Johnny Depp, Charles Fleischer, Joseph Whipp. The film is directed by Wes Craven.

well if craven does not direct this prequel if it ever happens, and i'm sure it will, then i will be bashing it from the start..wes craven created freddy and he should be the only one who is tapped to recreate him in a prequel capacity or even a remake.any less, and that would just be typical hollywood to screw somethin up like this.it would be as bad as having ronnie yu direct freddy versus jason.what the hell did he know about two horror icons.bad move hollywood.and i still think freddy versus jason could have been better is wes had directed it.

Wes Craven is a SELL-OUT!! I use to have great respect for Wes Craven, now he is nothing but a sh*t for allwoing his film to be Re-Made!!

Come on Hollywood stop trying to Re-Make/Re-Boot Classic horror films!! Put the same money into orginial film ideas and stop re-making great Horror 80's Cassic horror films into crap! Other examples of pure crap...Rob Zombie sh*t all over the "Halloween" Re-Make (How this never got a Razzie for Worst Picture of 2007 is beyond me) and the really, really bad Re-Make of "The Fog"!!!

Craven is the only one who can make this prequel worth something........... If they F*ck*ng use Rob Zombie to direct the movie, his gonna scrap it!!!

If it's true that New Line is actually going forward with a prequel, it's weird that they havent even contacted Craven, even in a producer capacity. Freddy is his damn it!!!
