EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Tyler Perry and The Family That Preys

This September, Tyler Perry brings his second original screenplay produced solely for the screen to a theater near you. In Tyler Perry's The Family That Preys, Academy Award-winner Kathy Bates and Academy Award-nominee Alfre Woodard star as the matriarchs of two very different families being torn apart by greed and scandal. With his keen observational eye, Perry chronicles the inner workings of these two families: One upper crust and the other working class. And he cautiously lets them become inextricably linked by scandal. This past weekend, we caught up with Perry to talk with him about the project. Also on hand for a bit of lively discussion were his two leading ladies Sanaa Lathan & Taraji P. Henson, who play clashing sisters with very different outlooks on life. All Tylers movies are dramas about universal problems that we all face. His movies are not meant to be seen as just comedic.

lol... understood and beleave me i agree with u 100% i still havent seen a tyler perry movie that i could atleast say its okay, the point is that the dude sucks and this movie isnt gonna be any good even though the story doesnt sound half bad

lol damn it, good point guys. i forgot about friday and dont be a menace too. those movies are awesome. i just meant the family comedies arent funny, which tylers are, and not funny at all.

i guess we arent really arguing about the same thing. and yes i admitted i was wrong about not reading the article. i was just generalizing when saying his movies are crap. drama or not, this movie wont be any good (opinion not based on facts other than his movies before hand are all terrible)

lol... okay let me start by sayin err good one i could aways count on u when i need a good laugh. Now B Alan. does make a point where he saids that the movie isnt a comedy but a drama and marcusx should have read the synopsis b4 posting a coment but come on how many of us havent placed a coment and then realised that u made a fool of yourself becuase it didnt make sense. Now marcusx also makes a point where he saids thats Tyler Perry isnt funny, i totally agree with marcusx in that argument becuase the dude isnt funny at all, i for one am i fan of "black comedies" u know something like the Friday's or Dont be a menace while drinkin your juice in the hood, Booty call, Life, etc.. well the point is that i would rather watch a "black comedy" then a "white comedy" if that makes any sense.

Now u guys are really argueing over nothin it really doesnt make sense but dont stop on my count plz this is halarious

alan? it's your turn buddy come on over!

nah i don't care for tyler perry either, but i think this whole argument you guys are having is silly because marcus obviously came in here to voice a general opinion about the guy and alan is arguing on behalf of this one specific movie.
so for all intents and purposes you guys arent even arguing about the same thing.

lol i retracted 1 statement for the obvious reason of not knowing there was a white family in the film. but can you blame me? he usually doesnt do that. and its not obvious im a racist(lol) i just dont like tyler perry. he is a one trick pony as i said before, i hold him with the same regards with that of aaron seltzer and jason friedberg. they suck and have no range is my point. you arent funny because you make a spoof film, and you certainly are NOT funny just because your black. grow up orange and stop being so close minded.

    ding ding round 1 over

  15. B. Alan Orange

Um, you are still missing a huge point here. This film isn't a comedy. It is a drama. Maybe you should know the facts before you start aping on about what an obvious racist you are. Despite my "sucky" opinions, you still come off like a misinformed jerk. Even you think so, as you keep retracting your comments from this post.

outlaw get over yourself. first off im not speaking(typing =p) 2ndly, regardless of whether you think im being racist or not, the fact still remains that tyler perrys movies are NOT funny. that is my point. they are all the same and not interesting. if you would like to continue this discussion then we can. its not about whites bette than blacks, if perry was white, he would still NOT be funny. thats my point. get your head out of your ass and think before you speak(i mean type =P)

Normally I don't bow out or give up in a dispute. But I retract my previous statement on the fact that for the most part B. Alan is correct. I didn't in fact read the synopsis, but I must say that still does not change the fact that Tyler Perry and his black satire is ridiculous. If Big Mommas house was 'crapola' as you so succinctly put it, then in reality there are NO funny black comedies. Step brothers was the typical humor of will Farrell. But to say anything positive about Tyler Perry and his work is damn near blasphemous. He thinks he is funny because he is black and all his movies have to have him in it. Him and his stereotypes have never been funny. There have been comedies with blacks and whites alike and they have been excellent. You know that B. Alan. For the sheer fact that you have an article on here, I will respect your opinions, but your articles for the most part SUCK. You're tastes are below that of your average moviegoer and yet you still sit here and defend my statement of truth towards Perry? For what? Because there wasn't a black guy in step brothers? Get over yourself. Perrys movies focus on blacks and how he thinks he can get away with those stereotypes. Will Ferrell did not do anything like that. Perry is a one trick pony and you are a fool with a lousy column and nothing clever to say other than "Kathy Bates is white." Yeah, good rebuttal *sshole.

  25. B. Alan Orange

Um, idiot? Kathy Bates is white. Cole Hauser is white. That chick from private practice is white. The film is about two families, one caucasian, one african american. Maybe you should read the synopsis before you go on about a black comedy (its actually a drama). Where was this arguement when Adam McKay put out Step Brothers? No black people in that movie. What about most of the comedies that came out this summer? Not too many races of any kind other than white. Funny that you have a beef with a movie over race, especially when no one is forcing you to see it. And Big Mama's House? Big Piece of Crapola is more like it.

another black comedy that no one will laugh at. hows about casting a white guy? huh? how does that sound Mr. Perry. f*cking hack. black family comedies have not been good since big mommas house. god damn
