EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Jackie Earle Haley and the Cast of A Nightmare on Elm Street Speak!

Michael Bay's production company Platinum Dunes has mastered the art of remaking contemporary classic horror films into modern blockbusters for the next generation. Beginning in 2003 with their re-imagining of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre the company has continued to make one hit after another out of contemporary horror classics including The Amityville Horror, The Hitcher and Friday the 13th. So of course it was only a matter of time before Platinum Dunes would decide to take a stroll down Elm Street and resurrect one of the most famous movie villains of all time ... Freddy Krueger, in A Nightmare On Elm Street, opening April 30th. Slipping into the razor sharp glove made famous by Robert Englund this time is Oscar nominee Jackie Earle Haley, who was last seen playing anti-hero Rorschach in the film Watchmen, based on the beloved graphic novel. This time around actress Rooney Mara (Dare) plays the iconic role of Nancy Thompson, the focus of Freddy's attentions, and actors Kyle Gallner (The Haunting In Connecticut) and Thomas Dekker (Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles) round out the cast as fellow teenagers who's dreams are being haunted by the striped sweater wearing villain. We recently had an opportunity to sit down with the cast of the new movie including Jackie Earle Haley, Rooney Mara, Kyle Gallner and Thomas Dekker, as well as the film's director Samuel Bayer to discuss the new movie, it's dark tone, the differences from the original, re-imagining a classic and resurrecting Freddy. In the new remake of the classic 1984 horror film A Nightmare On Elm Street, Nancy (Mara), Kris (Katie Cassidy), Quentin (Gallner), Jesse (Dekker) and Dean (Kellan Lutz) all live on the same street ... Elm Street. At night, they're all having the same dream, of the same man, wearing a tattered red and green striped sweater, a beaten fedora half-concealing a disfigured face and a gardener's glove with knives for fingers. And they're all hearing the same frightening voice. One by one, he terrorizes them within the curved walls of their dreams, where the rules are his, and the only way out is to wake up. But when one of their number dies a violent death, they soon realize that what happens in their dreams happens for real, and the only way to stay alive is to stay awake. Turning to each other, the four surviving friends try to uncover how they became part of this dark fairytale, hunted by this dark man. Functioning on little to no sleep, they struggle to understand why them, why now, and what their parents aren't telling them. Buried in their past is a debt that has just come due, and to save themselves, they will have to plunge themselves into the mind of the most twisted nightmare of all... Freddy Krueger (Haley).

A Nightmare on Elm Street was released April 30th, 2010 and stars Jackie Earle Haley, Kyle Gallner, Rooney Mara, Katie Cassidy, Thomas Dekker, Kellan Lutz, Clancy Brown, Connie Britton. The film is directed by Samuel Bayer.

    These new punk actors, have no respect for the original, and can't act, watching this I got irritated on how they can just dismiss the original as a good movie, saying this one is going to be better because its darker, hopefully theres a lot of bodies, cause the cast is sh*t and I can't stand this one tree hill/ 7th haven/90210 bullsh*t WB cast, not Jackie Earl Haley though, I'm open minded like with Halloween/H2 and F13th, and I was let down with H2 and F13th, so if I get mad at the featurette hows the movie going to fair, hopefully like they said they focus on Freddy and him killing, not 30yr olds playing high schoolers lifetime yuppy bullsh*t characters

    one thing I will say about that Freddy though, which I have said before, he voice should be like Rorshack's (spelling), and what these supposed actors/director say about not having the comical part is what made Freddy Iconic, and menacing, he took delight in killing, which made it scary, he deserved to burned and killed, now hes just doing it for revenge that motive can't last as much as killing for delight, but through all this negativity, I'm hoping I'm wrong, and this isn't another F13th or worse a uninvited.

    ive seen the original few weeks ago and it is a good classic type of movie but this movie takes it to new level which i think its legit. I Like the dark side of this film and a more serious freddy. The original was good but this one looks way better.
    @CelluloidKid its a re-invention not a remake or reboot

    I'm a huge fan of the original movies!!! I've seen them many many times and still enjoy them! I can't believe all the sh*t some of you can say about something you haven't seen yet! Jakie Earle is f*cking awesome!!! Sure he's small and we're not really used to the new makeup witch I think they changed from the first trailer digitaly witch kinda give it a sucky look, but the guy's f*cking passionate and I really can't imagine anyone complaining on the job he did with Rorshack (probably mispelled) in Watchmen. This is one actor thats gonna do whatever it takes not to f*ck up! I have a good feeling about this... Well... Except maybe for the terrified look on the director's face... I guess we'll have to wait and see, but so far every bit from the trailers makes me wanna see more! Can't wait!

    i love what jackie said when he said there will be alot of people basing their opinion by comparing it to the orginal, which is true but i hate the people not giving this a shot. and can people stop say Jackie is to small f*cking rob is short too, not as short but still is, and also scrawny but its not freddy physical stature your suppose to be afraid of its how he can control you dreams and can get you in you most valnurable time... when your asleep. That is what make Freddy scary, if you ever watch the orginal series you will see when he get pulled in to the real world he is weak and can even get his ass whooped by his own daughter. unlike the other "hardcore freddy fans" i'm going to give this a shot

    Haley was a bad casting decision for Freddy. He looks too small and his face is too kiddish. It's hard to be blown away or frightened by a toasted mini-me. he may do well in the part, but his look is all wrong.

    guys give it a chance...didnt u just hear them that its different...yea the original was a classic...one of the reasons why people remake it is to keep the character alive and have the new generation have horror characters...im only 20 and i love all the 80's movies saw them as a kid and scared me like hell and the new remakes r good in there own way for my generation unlike my dads...movies r awesome and you will still pay the ticket to go see it.
