EXCLUSIVE VIDEO: Adrien Brody & Sarah Polley Talk Splice
Oscar winner Adrien Brody has made some interesting career choices since winning his Academy Award in 2002 for the Roman Polanski film, The Pianist. Since then Brody has appeared in many different types of films including thrillers like The Jacket, comedies such as The Darjeeling Limited, mysteries including Hollywoodland and blockbuster action films like King Kong and this summer's upcoming, Predators. Now Brody can add science fiction to his repertoire with his latest film, Splice, directed by Vincenzo Natali. His co-star in the film, actress Sarah Polley began her career at an early age with her role in the Terry Gilliam film The Adventures of Baron Munchausen but it was her role in '1997s The Sweet Hereafter that made her an established actress. After collaborating with directors like Doug Liman, David Cronenberg and Zack Snyder on films such as Go, eXistenZ and Dawn Of The Dead, respectively, the actress decided to take a break from acting to make her directorial debut with the critically acclaimed film, Away From Her starring Julie Christie. Polley has recently returned to acting and now joins Brody in their new sci-fi thriller, Splice, which opens in theaters on June 4th. We recently had an opportunity to sit down and speak with the film's stars, Adrien Brody, Sarah Polley and actress Delphine Chanéac, who plays the creature Dren in the film, about the new movie; it's creepy scenes and real-world issues. In the film, Splice, Superstar genetic engineers Clive (Brody) and Elsa (Polley) specialize in splicing together DNA from different animals to create incredible new hybrids. Now they want to use human DNA in a hybrid that could revolutionize science and medicine. But when the pharmaceutical company that funds their research forbids it, Clive and Elsa secretly take their boldest experimentation underground-risking their careers by pushing the boundaries of science to serve their own curiosity and ambition. The result is Dren (Chanéac), an amazing, strangely beautiful creature that exhibits uncommon intelligence and an array of unexpected physical developments. Though, at first, Dren exceeds their wildest dreams, she begins to grow and learn at an accelerated rate, and then threatens to become their worst nightmare.
Splice was released June 4th, 2010 and stars Adrien Brody, Sarah Polley, Delphine Chanéac, Brandon McGibbon, Simona Maicanescu, David Hewlett, Abigail Chu. The film is directed by Vincenzo Natali.
