During my recent interview with The Incredible Burt Wonderstone writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein, we also spoke about their Vacation sequel. The project will serve as their directorial debut, and, while they already have Ed Helms locked in to play Rusty Griswold, they are still casting for the other roles. Here's what Jonathan M. Goldstein had to say.
Writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein discuss their Vacation remake
"We're still casting, and we hope to start shooting in June. Ed Helms is our Rusty Griswold, and it's going to be another road trip movie."
John Francis Daley revealed they are already scouting locations for the summer shoot.
"We just went on a location scout, so we've been in the thick of it for the last few weeks, hiring our crew. It's such an exciting experience for both of us."
The story revolves around a road trip that the now-adult Rusty takes with his son, reminiscent of the trip to Wally World in the original Vacation, although WallyWorld was never confirmed to be a part of the remake's story. John Francis Daley confirmed that Wally World is in fact the Griswold's destination once again.
"Rusty, because he so fondly remembers Wally World as this way of bringing a family together, he decides to take his family to Wally World. He's grown up now, he has a wife and kids."
Jonathan M. Goldstein also revealed that he hopes this movie stands on its own, when it's all said and done.
"We're really excited about it. We love the original movie, and have a lot of respect for it. We really want this to stand on its own as its own movie."
