True Lies 2 might be next for Arnold Schwarzenegger
There had been a number of sequel scripts written for True Lies 2 over the years, which James Cameron previously stated would not be used for the proposed TV series. Cameron has made it clear that he is not involved with the show based on the popular 1994 action film, but Tom Arnold now claims that the Avatar and Titanic director will be producing True Lies 2 . He claims that there is a finished script that both he and Arnold Schwarzenegger definitely want to make.
Here is what he had to say about True Lies 2, and his proposal to Sylvester Stallone to bring back some of the action genre's most remembered sidekicks in The Expendables 2.
Tom Arnold: I have read a great True Lies 2 script, and I hope we are able to do it. Knock on wood. Arnold Schwarzenegger is excited. I am excited.
Ever since Arnold left office, he has been talking about what he wants to do in terms of his next movie. Do you think its actually a reality that you guys will do True Lies 2?
Tom Arnold: Literally. We have both read the script. There is a script that James Cameron and a guy named Jeff Eastin, who created the TV show White Collar, wrote. It is really great. Jim can't direct it. But he can produce it. We hope it gets done. We have a few fun things we want to do. I am supposed to remain cool about this. For me, it would be a lot of fun to work with the guys again.
Have you talked about who you might want to direct this time around?
Tom Arnold: There is a list of really good directors. There have always been people who were interested in doing it. I let those guys handle that. I put in my two cents.
You and Arnold have had quite an interesting relationship. When he was in office, one of the only appearances he made was in your movie The Kid and I. I truly love that movie, maybe more than True Lies. When are you going to do a follow-up to that?
Tom Arnold: I think True Lies 2 is going to be the follow-up to that. I am excited. All I can say right now is, I know that Arnold and I will work together. A lot of people are sending him scripts now. He is carefully going through them, deciding what he wants to do. He wants to have some fun. He wants to do something that is worth his time, but fun. Hopefully, we can get this thing figured out. And we can get something on track. I am just waiting. I am following his lead.
What about joining in on The Expendables 2?
Tom Arnold: I could always do that. That would be a fun little thing to do. I said to Sly, "You should have a thing for the sidekicks." We'll see what he does. I thought he did a great job with the first one. I was really proud of him.

Director makes a huge different ! Remember Arnold returned to Terminator 3 Rise of the Machine without James Cameron. The movie was a total disappointment.

Little nervous about going forward with TL2 without Cameron but Arnold says in the article that he'd produce. Feel a bit better about that. Obviously, you need Arny and Tom back and I don't see why you don't bring Jamie back, too. True Lies remains one of Schwarzenegger's best movies and one of the best actions movies of all time, period. Well written, hilarious, a move where you actually care about the characters. That combination is tough to achieve once, not so easy the second time around. Cameron has to be involved somehow for it to succeed, IMHO. And, you have to at least have a cameo from Bill Paxton. I mean, c'mom!

Arnold Schwarzenegger can do comedy in an action movie but he can't do comedy in a comedy.He has that thing when he can be funny even when he is serious, like he did in True Lies. But when he has to be only funny he turns out to be ridiculous.

This is the perfect movie to get him back on the bandwagon. They can do a script where him and curtis are in their late 50's, retired, and somebody comes back for revenge on him. I think it could be done good. Although I think Arnold should have a role in Avatar 2 Where he can be CGI'ed into a hulking massive na'vi tribe leader whose a total bad ass.

I would have loved to have seen this,,,, 8 years ago.... Now, Arnold has the body of a man, well, his age. And he would look even more stiff moving around then normal couse he might pop his back out. He choice to be govenor, while Sly decided to rededicate himself to being physical for movies. Now looke at the way the to look so vastly diffrent? Now, I more then likly will watch it, couse it is True Lies 2. But if JLC, then this might not work as well. Jamie's hottness for a "MILF" is what drove alot of people to watch it as much as the action sences.

This makes sense there was to be a True Lies 2 anyways. Jamie has not aged well so they can replaced her, and I'm a fan of hers! Tom A. nobody cares. It's Arnolds baby get the right diector with Cameron producing and we'll good. Also it doesn't have to be a totally physical role like T2 and Predator. That will give him even more time to prime up for those roles.

True Lies was a great action/exploitation flick. It really brought out the subtleties and ridiculousness of action films of the 80s and early 90s to the forefront in a way that was both entertaining and realistic at the same time.
The fact that Cameron is at least overseeing this is good enough for me. As a fan of Cameron the writer/director, the producer I don't care for much. With that said, the simple fact that he is writing it and the cast is hopefully all on board to return, coupled with him choosing a hand-picked successor is a good enough for me. This will rock.

True Lies has to be one of the best popcorn flicks of all time and with Cameron involved in the sequel, even if just producing and a solid director like maybe McG, this could be a perfect action film to return with.
