Chris Evans will play a different version of Steve Rogers in The Avengers
This is what he had to say.
"Chris Evans plays a slightly different character in The Avengers. Which I think is good. I think he should be a different character, because he is in a different world. He is still Steve Rogers, and he retains those traits that make him the guy we all call Captain America, but at the same time, he should be different. Now? He is a man out of time. It should affect him. I really don't know anything about The Avengers, and I chose not to get involved in it. I haven't read the script, I haven't seen any footage. Because I didn't want it to influence me. I didn't want to think, "That is what they are doing in that one? Hmm? I better rethink this." I wanted this movie to stand-alone. As a period film. As the only Marvel film that is period. It is the only superhero movie of the summer that is period too. I think we are going to stand alone, and be different from the rest. Though, it is a busy summer. There are a lot of movies out there."
That calls into question what will happen with the character of Steve Rogers should Joe Johnston come back for Captain America 2. Having stayed away from The Avengers, how does that affect his approach to the sequel?
"I would definitely look at it, and see what they've done. We have talked about a sequel to this film possibly staying in the 1940s. He had a lot of his interests, and he was Captain America for three years during WWII, so there are more stories there. We don't necessarily have to come back to the present day with it. Though, we could..."

I don't understand. Okay, he spent three years at Captain America in the 1940s, but when the first movie ended he'd woken up in the present day..How does he expect to film a sequel and not address the way his first film ended??

i still dont see the point, if theyre going to make a sequel AFTER the avengers, why would you go back. like most of u have been saying, it wouldnt make any sense how he got from the 40's to the present. and i thought that bucky and the girl and everyone else he knew for the most part either died of old age or grew old by the time he was unfrozen?

@narrator I'm not sure if he needs to be frozen at the end of this movie. The ending credit scene could show Nick Fury and Tony Stark standing over a frozen Cap in modern times, allowing people to know that eventually he will be frozen. Remember that Whedon, not Johnston, directed the ending credit scene. It allows for something creative. If they freeze him, then they have to bring Cap right into the modern day after only one mission in the 40's, which would stink. I'd like to see Cap battle Zemo and the Winter Soldier before becoming acquainted with the inside of an ice cube.

It's possible that there will be something like an epilogue set two or three years after the end of the third act, linked by voice over, in which Rogers is frozen, and any sequels will take place in that unseen three-year period between the end of the first story and the epilogue that leads to The Avengers. Simple. As for First Class not being a period film, well, he's wrong about that, but it's a Fox film so he's correct in that C.A. is the only Marvel Studios period film this summer.

So steve rogers probably wont get frozen at the end until captain america 3 or 4, then, guess.

CUPID
If he doesn't get frozen at the end, movies goers who knows nothing about CA, except for what they saw in the movie well be so confuse when the Avengers comes out next year.

I wouldnt mind if any sequels to Cap still stayed within his adventures in the '40s, like he said he was Cap for three years in the film and were getting his adventure against Red Skull, maybe he had other missions withint that time piece that we wont get to see in this one, but maybe in future films, Baron Zemo perhaps and others

the Narrator
But if he doesn't get frozen in time, there is no way for him to exist in The Avengers film. Sure, the original roster didn't include Captain America until a few issues after the birth of the team, but they've already confirmed Cap in the film, so there's no question about it - he must be frozen and rediscovered.

Having options never hurts, I doubt he will get frozen in time though, not if they might stay in the 40's for the sequel.

the Narrator
Hmmm... interesting. All I know is that he'd better get frozen by the end of this film, with Bucky possibly "dying". That's all I gotta say. Lol.

Does he not consider X-Men First Class to be a Marvel Period Film then? kinda weird...
