In Starship Troopers: Invasion, a distant Federation outpost protected by the Starship John A. Warden comes under attack by bugs and the team on Fast Attack Ship Alesia is assigned to help evacuate the survivors and bring military intelligence safely back to Earth. @ROFLitschristian well it is satire and so there are some hillarious moments as @mr-jellyfish said below but it has its moments. This is not a comedy and there are parts where things get serious...REAL serious and even a little sad. All I can say is that Heinlein's novel was a sort of what-if scenerio. There are a lot of fascist elements in both the book and the movie. Its almost like a world where the nazi's actually won the war but now this is a thousand years later. I dont know if thats the right way to describe it. You just got to see it. I will be very interested in your opinion.

@skywise S basically, Starship Troopers is a film that wasn't taken seriously the first time around, which made it great because it wasn't too full of itself. But that same arrhythmic didn't quite settle with the two after?

@ROFLitschristian i was just kidding about watching the sequels before the original. I honestly do NOT believe that the sequels are worth watching at all. Now dont get me wrong, the original is cheesy while being a satire and that is why it is so endearing to me. The violence is very cartoonish and that supports what i believe the film makers were going for. There are some other things that i would love to talk about but dont want to ruin it for you....

@bawnian-dexeus @skywise I see. Thanks for the input. I might try them out, starting with 1. If Three and Two aren't as good as One, and I don't see One first, I might lose complete interest.

@ROFLitschristian Maybe if you watch the last 2 first they wont suck as bad but following the genius and satire that is number 1 makes them seem a bit small in comparison.

Well duh the first one was the best. There is no such thing as a good direct to video. Especially a direct to video sequel!

When you see the movie with Spanish subtitles, for the average Hispanic, it's quite funny. They translate the word bug with the word " Bicho" and that word, now only translates to bug for us Hispanics but it also translates to Dick too

The original Starship Troopers was awesome, it was a hilarious parody of fascist-loving war movies and even totally took the piss out of the source material. Judging by this poster it still has a sense of humour so I might check it out.

I have no doubt that this will be hugely better than the last 2 installments in the series. I love Heinlein's novel its brilliant and the pacing was pretty original for the time (so many rip offs - some good some not so good) but the movie was a bit different from the book and that is fine. As cheesy as the original film is i still love it. But there was so much more going on in the novel that the last to sequels failed to nail down. IMO animation (of this high a quality) is perfect for the franchise.

P.S. anyone who is interested Old Man's War by John Scalzi is paced in a very similar fashion but retains a high measure of originality.
