EXCLUSIVE: For Colored Girls Thandie Newton and Tessa Thompson

This Friday, acclaimed director Tyler Perry will debut his latest drama For Colored Girls, which is based on Ntozake Shange's 1974 choreopoem For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When The Rainbow Is Enuf. This big screen adaptation weaves together the stories of nine different women as they move in and out of one another's existences. We recently caught up with Thandie Newton, who plays Tangie, and Tessa Thompson, who plays Nyla, to chat with them about their behind-the-scenes experiences on For Colored Girls, what the story means to them, and what it was like working with Tyler Perry. For Colored Girls weaves together the stories of nine different women - Jo, Tangie, Crystal, Gilda, Kelly, Juanita, Yasmine, Nyla and Alice - as they move into and out of one another's existences; some are well known to one another, others are as yet strangers. Crises, heartbreaks and crimes will ultimately bring these nine women fully into the same orbit where they will find commonality and understanding. Each will speak her truth as never before. And each will know that she is complete as a human being, glorious and divine in all her colors.

For Colored Girls was released November 5th, 2010 and stars Kimberly Elise, Janet Jackson, Loretta Devine, Thandie Newton, Anika Noni Rose, Kerry Washington, Tessa Thompson, Phylicia Rashad. The film is directed by Tyler Perry.
