Without a doubt one of the biggest hits of the year has got to be Toy Story 3. Not only did the film open to rave reviews, and will probably be a top Oscar contender, but it went on to earn over $1 billion worldwide and break several box office records in the process. So it would only make sense that Pixar, and their parent company Disney, would be planning a Toy Story 4, right? Well, as it turns out ... that may not be the case.

We recently caught up with Toy Story 3 producer, Darla K. Anderson, while the Los Angeles Producers Guild of America and Women In Film were honoring her for her body of work. We began by asking Anderson if Toy Story 4 was being considered? "You know we have no plans for it at this point," she answered. Surprised by her reply, we followed up by confirming that there are no current plans to make a forth film. "No we're really not. We really worked hard at bringing Toy Story 3 to a conclusion," she said.

While many fans will surely be brokenhearted to hear that the popular film series has come to a conclusion, fear not because you haven't seen the last of those loveable toys! "We do have the short films that we are working on because we love the characters so much and want to keep them alive," said Anderson. "One of the short films will be on the front of Cars 2 next summer," she continued. "It's a short film with the Toy Story characters and you'll see a lot of the old favorites and stuff." We followed up by asking if the short film will take place after the events of Toy Story 3? "We can't talk too much about it but it involves all the new Toy Story 3 character and the classic characters too," Anderson teased. "So it's very cool but there are no plans for a Toy Story 4 at this point," she reiterated.

Since she mentioned it, and was a producer on the original movie, we asked Anderson if she is involved at all with the upcoming Cars 2? "I'm not involved with it primarily but we are all involved in terms of how collaborative we all are, how we each love each others projects and like to help each other out. But I'm not primarily involved," she said. Finally, we asked Anderson if Cars 2 was in fact on track for its release next summer? "Oh yes it's on track," she replied. "Its very cool and very exciting. I love those characters and can't wait. It's a great story," she finished.

Toy Story 3 is now available on Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD.

Toy Story 3 was released June 18th, 2010 and stars Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Joan Cusack, Ned Beatty, Don Rickles, Michael Keaton, Wallace Shawn, John Ratzenberger. The film is directed by Lee Unkrich.

Cars 2 was released June 24th, 2011 and stars Larry The Cable Guy, Owen Wilson, Michael Caine, Emily Mortimer, Eddie Izzard, John Turturro, Brent Musburger, Joe Mantegna. The film is directed by John Lasseter, Brad Lewis.

To answer you, @movie-nut - Pixar lost out to Shrek, Spirited Away, Wallace and Gromit, and Happy Feet (to which I still can't understand how HF was better than Cars, and I didn't even like Cars that much). However, Pixar has won the last three years. Toy Story 3 is up there, but it will have stiff competition with HTTYD and Tangled (if it's good, and looks to be so, based on the specs I saw and its technical achievements - still rooting for Dragon :P ). With the exception of Godfather: Part II, the Academy almost always snubs sequels (and before you get all, "what about Return of the King?" know that that wasn't really a sequel (as LotR was filmed all at once and RotK was the third segment of one enormous film).

Good. The Story was about "Andy's" toys. Andy. Andy is the focal point of the whole thing.
He's grown up now. His story is over and they left it fine just the way they did.

@Daveactor7, basically nowadays, all Pixar has to do to win an Oscar is make a movie. I mean, think about it. What was the last Pixar movie that didn't win an Oscar?

@Iron-Monkey, I can see where @Worth5Bucks is coming from. Yes, Toy Story was genius, and yes, I agree with every word @JakeNelson says, but maybe a fourth film would tarnish the "better as it goes" pattern the Toy Story movies have going (2nd was better than first, 3rd was even better) because they ended the 3rd one so well. This is also my though on the idea of a Monsters, Inc. sequel.

The third movie for these lovable toys is the perfect ending. Shorts are necessary, but a 4th film I'd worry if it would be any good. 'Toy Story 3' is the best movie of this year and one of the best movies I've ever seen. 'Toy Story' is an animated legendary series that were more that touched us all from a beggining to a middle to a great ending, and thats the way it should be even though it will be hard saying goodbye to these toys.

I'm so damn happy that they are not making a fourth. Even though Pixar has never made a bad movie (Cars was alright), i think that Toy story 4 would just screw up the series.

I'm glad Toy Story is wraped up. But I'm still nervous about all this sequel business, especialy since Cars is Pixar's least deserving movie. Not that it was horrible, far from it, but Cars is like a low B on a report card full of As. I find it hard to skeptical of Cars 2, considering how great the other Pixar films are and the fact that Toy Story 2 and 3 proved that Pixar is formible with sequels. But I'm still a little let down that we won't be getting something completely new instead. And if Disney wants sequels out of Pixar, then where is The Incredibles 2!? The Incredibles is my favorite Pixar fim, AND the most sequel friendly of the bunch. Seriously.

It was an end of an era for these characters, I like the idea for the short films, but I trust pixar and Im sure they wont let disney say lets hurry and make a 4th for some quick cash.

A 4th is unnecessary. Three ended everything beautifully and there's no need to continue the series

As much as this is good news, I hope they still keep making creative original short films to play in front of their pictures.

There's never any "public" plans for anything. Lucas said Star Wars had no plans to be 3-D'd. And oh look....

This is not really news. They've been saying there won't be a TS4 since before #3 came out. And no, I'm not one of those "brokenhearted fans" because another Toy Story just isn't necessary.
