EXCLUSIVE: Alaina Huffman Talks Smallville and Stargate Universe Season Finales
We pressed on to find out more about her characters role in Smallville's season finale. "It's the finale so it's along the same lines of all of us heroes banding together. Hawkman's in it, which is Michael Shanks, another Stargate alumnus, and then Stargirl is in it as well." From what Huffman described it sounds like The Justice Society Of America, which was introduced in the extremely popular two-hour event episode Absolute Justice from earlier this season, will be returning and teaming up with Clark's new team of heroes, The Justice League. "Yes and that is sort of the way that Smallville has really integrated or justified having the Justice League," Huffman explained. "Not necessarily visually showing everybody on the episodes but having a few of the characters and then making it clear that we're all working together. So it's one of those situations." Since the long running series has recently been picked up for an astonishing tenth season we asked the actress what she would like to see her character doing next year if she was to return to the show. "I definitely feel like aside from the Black Canary character that Dinah and Ollie have a whole history from the comics to explore."
Fans of DC Comics and the character the Green Arrow know that the relationship between Oliver Queen and Dinah Lance is one of the most famous romances in comic book history. We asked the actress if she was aware of that history before she took the role or if she had to subject herself to a comic book boot camp? "Oh yes. I didn't know anything about comic books at all, little alone Black Canary or Green Arrow or any of it," she confessed. "Then when I got cast, first of all, I saw the costume and I was like, really? I have to wear that? I was like, I have to do stunts in that, right? But it was awesome and I love it. It still fits after having a baby and everything." The actress continued to discuss the show and hinted at what she thinks could be a possible spin-off of the series after next year's tenth season. "But the whole storyline between Ollie and Dinah, I think is a great storyline. It would be something interesting, if not to explore in the tenth season of Smallville, I have a feeling that they may do something after that. Not necessarily Smallville but they have all these sets and I think they may do something along those lines."
Finally, since SyFy is currently airing the final season one episodes of Stargate Universe and the actress has already shot most of season two, we asked her to give us a sneak peak at what fans can expect going into this season's finale and leading up into the second season of the show. "Right now I think Sabotage just aired and so every week is a big sort of, what's going on?" Huffman explained. "Then we go to another planet and there is that subplot of all of us being on the ship, all of us getting along and living together. The first season was really about how do we get home? The second season is more involved with life on the ship and it's not really about trying to get home because we don't know if we are going to get home? So now we're about a third through the way of shooting the second season and some great stuff is going to happen. The Lucian Alliance will make an appearance so we've got little hints of the Stargate past integrated into season one and going into season two."
Smallville episode 9.21, "Salvation" stars Tom Welling, Allison Mack, Erica Durance, Cassidy Freeman, Callum Blue, Justin Hartley, Adrian Holmes, Crystal Lowe and is directed by Greg Beeman.
Stargate Universe episode 1.19, "Incursion, Part 1" stars Robert Carlyle, Justin Louis, Brian J. Smith, Elyse Levesque, David Blue, Alaina Huffman, Jamil Walker Smith, Ming-Na and is directed by Andy Mikita.

I couldn't possibly see Dinah & Oliver as being anymore contrived than Chlollie was. The awesome thing about Dinah is that we KNOW the part she plays in Oliver's history. Part of what drives the plot in SV is the strong ensemble cast the show has, but EVERYONE has to have an organic role to play. It's really clear at this point that the show is struggling desperately to find a place for Chloe who otherwise really doesn't have a role to play on the show. In reality, the role Chloe is playing is actually the role traditionally held by Dinah/BC--den mother to the League and lover to Oliver/GA. Chloe is a usurper and has been for a long time now. Chlois supporters wanted Lois' life for Chloe, and when they couldn't have that, it pleased them to crusade for Chlollie. The fact is Chloe is all washed up, and there's a large sentiment AGAINST her now, and that's especially true after season 8. Things never got any better for that character in season 9. Hopefully, this show won't re-sign Allison to another full season, because her very presence has served to leave that part of the storyline stale and flat. The character lacks dimension and importance in the broader scheme of things. Chloe is ALL washed up, and her departure is so long overdue. Siren from season 7 was Dinah at her best, and that's what the show could use--NEW LIFE. Dinah is sexy, playful, skilled and heroic. The relationship beytween she and Oliver would be great. The fact that Chlollie exists creates a speed bump on the way to establishing Dinah & Oliver, because the show then has to create some plausible segue form one ship to another. Dinah can be brought to the show before Chloe ever leaves. At least she would be in place to take her own rightful place in the mythology. Dinah/BC provides a bit of versatility that Chloe seriously lacks at this stage.

yeah... i don't know ay. i get that in the comic world dinah and oliver have a massive history - but given the lack of EVERYTHING in Smallville universe - it really would seem oddly forced to bring her in. it's kind of like they veered away from her being a part of Oliver's story a while back, because they brought Black Canary onto the scene, but then just left it. If they had brought her in again maybe two seasons or even one season back, sure, that could have been worked with. but anything now is just gonna seem incredibly rushed and yeah, forced. plus i actually kind of like chloe and oliver together. didn't expect to, but i do. their characters seem to fit - or maybe its just that allison and justin have ridiculously intense chemistry. who knows. still - the actress who plays Black Canary seems cool, so nothing against her :)

Not a fan of the Chlollie relationship. Besides coming out of nowhere with nothing of SUBSTANCE to support it, it was introduced in such a sleazy fashion. Bored, boozing Oliver and mortified Chloe (having just realized she was lusting after a 12-year old boy) get it on in the SAME spot where she saw her ex-husband and Davis die violently a few months before. Oh, and no emotional strings attached, thank you. We're just in it for the kicks.....And easy access to Queen Industries/Luthorcorps millions to bankroll her Plan B, because Clark can't be trusted. Huh? Right, the plan that led to the death of Faora and the defection of the Kryptonians who were trying to assimilate. Thus completely undercutting Clark's efforts to prevent the disastrous future seen in "Pandora."
Yes, the writers have changed course and are now suggesting that there is a real emotional connection developing between these two. But I have ceased to care. S9 Chloe is so morally bankrupt and arrogant that I do not wish to see a grand romance with Green Arrow. Send her off to a retreat to do some serious soul-searching. Toss in some psychiatric help too. Don't torment the viewers with another dreary love story with an expiration date (expires when Black Canary stakes her claim.)

Chloe fans are grasping at straws now, and that's unfortunate both for them and the show's prodcuers. Everyone wants to see the show move forward save for a relatively small contingent of fans. Yes, SV is an AU, but it also draws VERY heavily from existing canon from across the DC strata. The show will and IS increasingly starting to resemble clearly recognizable traditional storylines now. That's what the fanbase really wants. Chloe serves no real function that advances the narrative at this stage, and it's pretty obvious that the producers and their writers are struggling to re-imagine ways to use a worn out and over exposed character. Chloe had her day, but it's time for Chloe and Allison to push on now. Chlollie ISN'T the crowd pleasing, highly in demand, over the top love affair of the ages that Chlollie fans keep ranting about. Chlollie is popular amongst a minorioty of fans--CHLOE FANS. They don't represent the broader fandom. Alaina Huffman is BEAUTIFUL and very talented. She's available to do the show as a recurring role, and she has the chemistry with Justin to pull this off. Moreover, BC and GA are a popular and long standing canonical relationship WELL KNOWN to fans. Seeing the genesis of that canonical relationship and it's rich history would bring a measure of excitement and would probably re-energize a portion of the show's viewership. One of the cool things about SV are the AU-ish, prequel characteristics that define this story. This is all a back story. It would be great to BC & GA right along with CLOIS in season 10. That's what we've been waiting for all along. We're watching and waiting for the emergence of those characters that we LOVE. We're actually starting to get there now. Season 9 is the best to date, and we're moving closer to the heart of the story. Chloe fans just refuse to let go.

Oh pliz same old same old people complaining, everywhere on all websites, pliz smallville is based on DC canon, whether u like it or not, this chlollie garbage is nonsense. We want to see the real comic action coming alive. Clark is no longer with lana or chloe, he is with lois. Sooner rather than later arrow has to hook up with BC...no more pimping of chloe were she doesnt belong, u have tried to make her lana lang, lois lane for years now black canary. KILL HER PLEASE and do the superman legacy a big favour before this cheap character ruins everthing...
meh, who cares how popular chlolless is, its based on nothing, no history no substance. its nonsense. BC and arrow will hook up , its gonna happen whether u like it or not and Allison Mac isnt coming back so there...bget used to it...MYTHOS RULE
what smallville universe is that , Oh pliz , its still superman universe, all these heroes are part of the DC, all theses story arcs are DC cannon, if u dont know anything about the mythos dont speak up, i think its best if people who dont stick to their soap operas....

I have nothing against the actress but did she ever watched Smallville? If she did then she should know that it's a alternative universe because I keep hearing the word "comics" during the all ITW. No offense but the relationship between Canary and Arrow on the comics is the worst ever. No wonder they're not together anymore right now. Oliver cheated on Dinah all the time, had many childs with other women and didn't seem that happy. I feel for the BC character if she comes back to the show because she wouldn't be really loved especially now that Oliver is with Chloe. The relationship between Chloe and Oliver is becoming very popular among fans and we all know that the character of Chloe itself defied mythos just by existing and breathing, so if the writers are smart they'll keep going with the Chlollie relationship and defy mythos once again.
A spin-off? Would have worked a few years ago but not now, not anymore.
Anyway I'd rather have the writers's focus to be on the actual main characters of Smallville like Clark, Chloe, Lois and Oliver especially if S10 is the last. No need to bring in more guests and I do hope that they'll develop more the Chloe/Oliver pairing because it's something very different to watch and very adult. I love it.

God let Chloe be happy for once, I have nothing against the actress who plays her but the BC has always p****d me off as a character, and don't get me started on the relationship between her and the GA in the comics. Smallville has ignored the comic book mythos many times before when it suits them, I don't see why they can't do it one more time.

It's nice to see she has great things to say about SV. However, I totally agree with you, Maria26.
Can SV please just keep one good original thing, Chloe and Oliver together, and not have it ruined by mythos? Pretty please?

Keep her far far away from Oliver. The show has gold with the relationship between Chloe and Oliver. It's something very new and captivating. This pairing is becoming very popular among fans and it would be a shame to screw it. Smallville is a show with it's own universe and own mythos so they don't have to go there with Black Canary and Green Arrow. If they ever do then I'd be done with the show. It would just prove that they can do something original and creative. NO to Black Canary next season.
