Ewan McGregor has replaced Bradley Cooper in Gavin O'Connor's upcoming drama Jane Got a Gun. We reported last week that Bradley Cooper had to depart the project after the Boston bombings delayed production on the currently shooting American Hustle, which threw his schedule into disarray.

The story centers on Jane (Natalie Portman) whose outlaw husband (Noah Emmerich) returns home barely alive after taking eight bullets. She reluctantly recruits a former lover (Joel Edgerton) to defend their property as her husband's gang comes to finish him off. Ewan McGregor will be taking on the role of the villain and leader of this outlaw gang.

Gavin O'Connor is directing from a script written by Brian Duffield and Anthony Tambakis. The project originally had Lynne Ramsay directing with Jude Law and Michael Fassbender starring.

Production is currently taking place in New Mexico.

Jane Got a Gun was released in 2013 and stars Natalie Portman, Ewan McGregor, Rodrigo Santoro, Joel Edgerton, Boyd Holbrook, Noah Emmerich, Todd Stashwick, River Shields. The film is directed by Gavin O'Connor.

@dan1 Lol. Yeah, I definitely see why you feel that way. I guess I'm just hoping O' Connor somehow pull everything together.

The actors are getting progressively worse. I really wish they would've gotten Hiddleston to replace Fassbender. Would've made more sense than this mess.

@skywise If he can bring the same character from Haywire, but with a darker approach, we has a winner

Would have loved to see Cooper as a villian but just as interested to see McGregor.

@knightmare90 When I see his name I get just as excited as I do when I see Gosling's name attached to a project now...unless it's like Hangover 3 or something, then I hardly care.

Damn. Was really looking forward to Cooper in this. Will they ever pick someone 100 percent though?

Let's place bets. Who's gonna replace Mcgregor? :P
