Jeremy Renner could wear Snake Plissken's eyepatch in Escape From New York
There is only an offer out to the actor at this time, and it wasn't clear if he would accept the role. Its also noted that the movie will start filming in the first quarter of 2011. Jeremy Renner could feasibly shoot this project before The Avengers starts filming, where he will portray Hawkeye. Although a clear production start date for The Avengers hasn't been given yet.
Breck Eisner is directing Escape from New York from a script by Allan Loeb. We exclusively reported back in June that Timothy Olyphant, who starred in Breck Eisner's horror movie The Crazies, was considered as a possibility to portray Snake Plissken.
Escape from New York is in development . The film is directed by Breck Eisner.

Why does it have to be a remake, I would prefer a passing of the torch sort of deal. Snake meeting his son, at the beginning then have the son take over. Sounds much better than a stinking stupid remake, which will be dumbed down. If that could ever happen to this two film franchise.

I love Gerard Butler, too, but...his last couple of movies I could barely understand his accent. And my grandmother was SCOTTISH.

i agree with @Todd89 and @Yveske on this one kurt in my mind is the only snake but if it had to be redone i DEFIANTLY THINK Timonthy Olyphant should get this role and do it, his on screen presence is a good one not to mention his characteristics and and humor is Snake Plisskin

I want to see him pull of Hawkeye as well. I mean, I can't stress how much Josh Holloway was perfect for the role, and I want to make sure the role went to not only a good actor, but a good Clint Barton.

I have to agree with John2347... If Stalone and others can come back out for action movies, then Kurt can too. This would only work if it was a prequel type of story i think. I do belive Jeremy would be great in it either way, but its like trying to make Rambo with someone eles.

I think he would be a good Snake but I still think that if Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis, Sylvester Stallone can keep playing Iconic characters Kurt Russell should be able to. Now if this movie was a prequel or a sequel after New York and before L.A. I would defiantly check it out but I just don't think it should be remade especially by Breck Eisner I thought the Crazies was OK but Sahara was terrible.

I think the new Snake Plissken should be the old Snake Plissken. Kurt Russell can still get it done. Of course, that may mean moving from New York to another city, but I'd rather watch Kurt than a pretender.
