Elle Fanning is in talks to play Princess Aurora in Maleficent
This project turns the classic Sleeping Beauty story on its ear, with a revisionist take told from the villain's perspective. Elle Fanning is in negotiations to portray Aurora, the young princess who falls under the spell of Angelina Jolie's wicked title character.
We reported back in January that production designer Robert Stromberg signed on to make his directorial debut with Maleficent, working from a screenplay by Linda Woolverton (Alice in Wonderland).
It still isn't known when production may begin on Maleficent, but with the cast starting to come together, shooting may start in the near future.
Maleficent comes to theaters July 2nd, 2014 and stars Angelina Jolie, Elle Fanning, Sharlto Copley, Imelda Staunton, Miranda Richardson, Kenneth Cranham, Sam Riley, Lesley Manville.

Going with someone so young is kind of a decision I'm surprised by, but I really can't think of anyone better for this role. Fanning had a fantastic year in 2011, and I think her star is really rising.
Who thinks it would be cool for them to unofficially tie this into Once Upon a Time and have Kristen Bauer play Maleficent. I know they've allegedly already cast Jolie, but that was so long ago I wouldn't be surprised if it falls through, and I think going with actors who aren't as well-known could make for a more interesting project.
