Edward Norton Discusses Being The Incredible Hulk Again

MTV.com recently caught up with The Incredible Hulk star Edward Norton and he discussed playing the green giant in the much talked about The Avengers movie.

"It's purely a function of time. It's always about just working things out on the schedule. I get very busy. You have to deal with the demands of your moment. I tend to keep my head in the thing I'm doing and I don't speculate or worry too much about what two or three blocks down the thing is going to be. I know all these things will reveal themselves and work themselves out."

He then went on talk more about the his possible involvement in the project.

"The thing about their universe that's fun is that it all cross-pollinates. Even when I was working on the The Incredible Hulk script, I tried to plug in the whole super-soldier serum thing from Captain America."

Marvel's The Avengers was released May 4th, 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

The Incredible Hulk was released June 13th, 2008 and stars Edward Norton, Liv Tyler, Tim Roth, William Hurt, Tim Blake Nelson, Ty Burrell, Christina Cabot, Peter Mensah. The film is directed by Louis Leterrier.

Thanks. I really don't like fighting, but I'm not gonna let people say things that aren't right, it's just how I am.

I just want to see Norton in this role again. Whatever he does, I know he's going to make it awesome, and I hope it's all his own. Norton is the best Banner ever, period!

Haha you're the one calling everyone posers which seems kinda stupid. Not everyone knows about whatever, so when they do learn of it, and like it, somehow it makes them a poser? I really liked Watchmen but never heard of it before the movie came out. Does that make me more of a poser? Your logic is unjust. Calling people names like 'poser' is no different than Newkill calling somebody a c*cksucker lol. Just pointless and leaves you room for those people to argue against you. Like when you called me a poser a while ago, I couldn't help but laugh. Besides, I like a lot more movies than you do (I don't bitch about movies just the users), so wouldn't that make you more of a poser being on this site when I'm the one who actually LIKES these films? This goes for a lot of people on here too not just you Com, a lot of people bitch how much they hate films yet this is a movie website lol. I love it when people have no common sense and I get to point it out.

@ Mess Except it's not really a twist when half the fanbase has already seen it happen twenty times. My original poser comment was at jdSterling, not you.

I call people posers if they jump on the f*cking bandwagon and act like connoisseurs. Don't be a tw@ vital.

Making him the bad guy is more predictable then making him the good guy lol.

Btw, Messenger, Comrade calls people posers if they don't know every f*cking detail about a comic book character.

If he's the villian this movie will suck. ALL THOSE AWESOME HEROES vs just The Hulk? Are you kidding me? Iron Man could probably beat him by himself. It's just silly. It'd be way cooler to have him on the team. It makes it more balanced. You got firepower, strength, intelligence, agility, and more strength lol. And it'd be dumb to only have one villian with that many good guys. It'd be too easy for them ya know. 4 or 5 vs 1 person? Psh. Waste of film.

I'm not a poser cause I admit I don't know much about the comics but as a movie stand point I believe the hulk would be a good villain cause as a MOVIE that would be good twist.

"I don't buy the "Hulk as a hero" thing. That's why all the comics and both movies are not great."

He's not a "villain" either, at least not in the typical sense of the word. He's a Frankenstein-like character, or King Kong. Powerful, destructive, but easily misunderstood.

I liked the concept in the Incredible Hulk where Banner thinks he can "aim" the Hulk, as in unleash his rage, but at a specific target, instead of just smashing whatever he sees. With Banner seemingly able to have some control over his transformations at the end of the film, the Avengers would be smart to use this to their advantage.

In the very first Avengers story Loki turns the Hulk against them. Since then there have been tons of reduxes of that use that same situation, somehow the Hulk gets out of control, the Avengers have to stop him...blah blah blah.

Of course, if you were a comics fan and not a poser you might know that.

I don't want an Avengers Vs. Hulk movie, it's trite and uncreative. But I am pleased to hear he's assuming he'll come back when production's rolling.

And no bad guy Hulk. Hulk is a misguided out of control good guy. He's the bull in the china store, who's trying to swat the mosquito.

Slim: Other Guy, that's true about the depth. I noticed that you were the only one who mentioned that. Good point.

The fact that he's even involved in this is somewhat of a miracle. After the studio cut the crap out (all of Norton's Hulk humanizing scenes) of "The Incredible Hulk", to keep it more of an action film, I didn't think that he would ever come near it again. The footage (All great, powerful and convincing performances by Norton) are on the "Deleted Scenes" of the DVD, but the movie would have been so much better as an extended cut. He was plenty pissed (and deservedly so) when they cut those scenes out. The movie would have been awesome with them included. Hopefully his enthusiasm hasn't soured in any way.

Actually "Hulk Smash!" is a pretty good title...
But I agree too that the Hulk as a good guy is kind of boring.
Hulk should be a wild, unstoppable beast beating to the blood.

Edward Norton really surprised me with The Incredible Hulk. He gave the character some depth. He really should be involved with a sequel or The Avengers. Norton should be involved in the writing whether it's for a sequel or The Avengers.

He should definitely be involved, and like the first guy said, it'll happen. This is just building tension. You can't have the Hulk w/o Bruce Banner, at least if you want a good movie.
