Edward James Olmos is set to direct, star in, and produce the bilingual drama, tentitively titled, The Crystal Frontier.

The film is based on a Carlos Fuentes novel that explores U.S.-Mexico border issues and the far-reaching effects of the two nations' foreign-policy decisions, notes The Hollywood Reporter.

Filming on The Crystal Frontier is likely to begin in August for a spring 2008 release date; it will be filmed at locations along the U.S.-Mexico border, in Mexico City and New York.
