Writer-director Richard Kelly has found the first cast member for his thriller Corpus Christi, with Édgar Ramírez signing on.

Édgar Ramírez will play Paciencia De La Rosa, an Iraq War veteran who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, and strikes up a bizarre relationship with his boss, an affluent owner of a grocery store chain.

Richard Kelly is directing Corpus Christi from his own original screenplay. He will also produce alongside his Darko Entertainment partner Sean McKittrick and Eli Roth. Robert Rodriguez is also producing with his Quick Draw partners Aaron Kaufman, and Iliana Nikolic. Here's what producer Robert Rodriguez had to say about Corpus Christi.

"I started Quick Draw with the idea that it would be a home for innovative filmmakers who would be given the chance to take chances and surprise audiences. I think that a movie like Corpus Christi could only be done justice by doing it independently."

Corpus Christi will begin production in July, on location in both Austin, Texas and Corpus Christi, Texas.

Corpus Christi comes to theaters in 2013 and stars Édgar Ramírez. The film is directed by Richard Kelly.
