Eddie Murphy Coming Back as Beverly Hills Cop

Movie Picture
After this past weekend, Paramount is set to bring another 80s staple back to the big screen. According to Variety, the studio is set to revive its Beverly Hills Cop franchise. Eddie Murphy will be back as Detective Axel Foley and Brett Ratner is in negotiations to direct the fourth film in this franchise.

While no writer has been hired as of yet, it was Murphy himself who pitched the idea of a revival of this film series that started in 1984 with Beverly Hills Cop and was seemingly finished with 1994's Beverly Hills Cop III. The series grossed $712.9 million worldwide collectively.

The studio is eyeing a 2009 production start with a summer tentpole release in 2010.

Well this is no surprise. We've seen Rambo, Rocky, McClain, and Indy come back. Why not Axel?

I practically shat my diaper when i got wind of this soon-to-be-sh*temare. If you're gonna do Beverly Hills Cop IV, you might think about casting a new Axel. Eddie Murphy was talented back in the 80's, but he is as worthless as a pile of Soured-Owl-Sh*t these days. What about casting Dave Chappelle ??? Or, just f*cking off and coming up with something origional????

I like the idea of Eddie Murphy reprising his role as Axel Foley in a 4th Beverly Hills Cop film. However, what they dont tell you here is that apparently (according to Joblo.com) Murphy himself pitched the idea of Brett Ratner directing.
What was he thinking? Obviously he never saw Rush Hour 3. Although to be fair, Ratner only directed what was in the scripts (and we all know how poorly X-Men 3 was written), so maybe, just maybe if they get a really good writer on board he will direct a decent movie (unlikely, I know).
I mean sh*t, look at Indiana Jones 4, not even Spielberg (probably the best director ever) could make a decent film out of that cheese-ball, over-the-top crap that David Koepp wrote and George Lucas CLEARLY submitted his input to. Its all in the writing!

He needs a good film to star in.He should post his CV to the casting manager of films like transformers 2.It might be a good (re)start for him. HA HA HA

Watching Eddie Murphy try and do his Axel Foley stick again would be about as entertaining as watching my grandpa telling dirty jokes at the dinner table.

It's awkward and I just end up feeling sorry for him.

Who wants to pay 10 dollars for that?

    Pass

Murphy needs a hit and this might not be that bad, if its done like the first one. That won't happen with Ratner directing.

wow really? thats 10x worse than how long they waited to do Rush Hour 3, when chris tucker was too damn fat. Now, murphy is too old, and annoying is right, he's a family/comedy voice. I sure hope he can manage to make this work, because I loved BHC.

Here's another example of playing it safe in Hollywood!! Where are the original ideas!!!

The first one was the best. The other ones where more of the same!!

the first 2 were great and hoisin i agree... i just about walked out of the theatre with the third film. I remember hearing many reports that tony scott (of the second film) and murphy were trying to come up with something a couple of years ago, but didnt pan out. i just hope they get back to the serious type comedy of the first two, instead of have it try too hard to be funny like the 3rd, which frankly didnt have the appeal or the laughs the first two did.

Eddie Murphy Was a great comedic actor...Beverly hills Cop 1&2 and 48 Hours were fantastic.

Having said that, he has devolved into a family feature/voice over for hire Hack. Which sux, because he was such a talented, edgy comedian Once.

I can't blame the studio for cashing in on the "Hills Cop" brand name, but, I know that this sequel will absolutely Suck...

But surely no film can better the amazing Beverly Hills Cop 3?! Seriously, that is the only film I've ever nearly walked out of.

DO SOMETHING NEW YOU LAZY STUDIOS/ACTORS! Just because Die Hard, Rocky and everything else did it...you don't have to!

Eddie Murphy surely needs a hit movie after Norbit, his latest one Meet Dave looks crappy just like Norbit. They should go with Brett Ratner, I think he did a good job with Rush Hour 3. Good Luck!
