Eastbound & Down Renewed for a Second Season

One of HBO's new hit comedy series is going back to the baseball diamond. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Eastbound & Down has been renewed for a second season by HBO.

While the series started off slow in the ratings, the viewership kept expanding throughout the first season's six-episode run, which ended on March 14. The series stars Danny McBride as former major league baseball pitcher Kenny Powers, who returned to his North Carolina roots to become a physical education teacher after his baseball career was abruptly finished due to his destructive antics.

"Eastbound & Down's raucous comedy sparked a loyal and enthusiastic following that grew throughout the season, HBO's West Coast chief Michael Lombardo said.

The series will go into production sometime this year, with a second-season premiere set for 2010.
