Dwayne Johnson, who rose to international stardom as a professional wrestler dubbed The Rock, is set to return to the squared circle, executive producing a new wrestling series with Jerry Bruckheimer. It is unclear if Dwayne Johnson will also star in the project.

Spartacus: Blood and Sand writers Brent Fletcher and Seamus Kevin Fahey are penning this untitled series. The fictional storyline will be set in the 1980s and will mirror how professional wrestling rose to new heights within that time frame.

Dwayne Johnson, Jerry Bruckheimer, Brent Fletcher, and Seamus Kevin Fahey will executive produce alongside KristieAnne Reed and Jonathan Littman.

The 1980s were known as "the golden age" of professional wrestling, with Vince McMahon's World Wrestling Federation a.k.a. WWF (later changed to the WWE), and Ted Turner's World Championship Wrestling a.k.a WCW, dominating the marketplace, bringing the "sports entertainment" business into national prominence.

I'd be very surprised if he starred in the series. I think Johnson is too high profile and would cost too much to be on a weekly scripted drama (that doesn't start with WWE).
