DVD Buyers Aren't Quick to Pick Up the Latest Releases

Tuesday's just aren't what they used to be...

According to The Hollywood Reporter, consumers don't have the same rush to purchase their DVD's every Tuesday, when new releases hit the shelves. It seems the sole exception to this trend-reversal was the October release of Transformers. That isn't a huge shock, though, since, so far, it's one of the highest grossing theatrical movies of the year. Still, aside from that release, the Tuesday rush seems to be fading.

"Sales are accumulating over a full week or two, rather than the fanboy Tuesday frenzy," said Steve Feldstein, senior vp marketing and corporate communications for 20th Century Fox Home Entertainment. "With uncertainty in the economy and gas prices creeping toward $4 a gallon, trips and purchases are more considered and consolidated."

However, that whole trend could be reversed right back, come December, with an impressive array of box-office smashes. Releases like Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End (Dec. 4), The Bourne Ultimatum (Dec. 11), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (Dec. 11) and The Simpsons: The Movie (Dec. 18). Some analysts believe that buyers might be waiting for these big titles to be released, before doing the rest of their DVD shopping.

hey, when something worth being excited about is released, i take my ass to the store and get it. if sales are down thats because quality of movies are down, and hollywood should stop f*cking up.
stop making adult movies for kids, stop marketing everything so damn much that it has to be rated pg so the kids can go watch some movie that shouldve been intended for adults, just so you can sell toys to go along with the movie. a movie should be a movie, not a marketing ploy.

Okay, first off Spider-Man 3 was the top grossing film of the year, not Transformers. And secondly, Chamber of Secrets is not the new Potter film. It was Order of the Phoenix. The reporter of this article should lose their job.

Lol, he said fanboy. My guess is alot of them turn to p2p. The 4 titles they're expecting to change things have already been leaked. Bad pirates.
