In a story from Variety, DreamWorks is putting together a biopic on composer George Gershwin.

The studio bought a screenplay from Doug Wright (Memoirs of a Geisha). Apparently, the deal for this script sale is almost complete.

The film will follow Gershwin's life, from his early years in Brooklyn as the child of Russian immigrants to his untimely death in Hollywood in 1937 at age 38. Throughout his short life, he wrote more than a dozen Broadway shows with his older brother Ira. His music continues to be used in commercials, TV and films. In fact, Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" and "An American in Paris" are among the most recognizable musical works throughout the world.
