Dracula Year Zero Revived by Universal Pictures

Dracula Year Zero back on track at Universal
Dracula Year Zero back on track at Universal
Universal Pictures is breathing new life into its vampire project Dracula Year Zero, with Gary Shore coming on board as the new director.

We last reported on this languishing project back in August 2010, when Sam Worthington was set to star for director Alex Proyas. Dracula Year Zero fell by the wayside when the budget spiraled out of control, but it is back on track with a new script by Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless (Flash Gordon). Sam Worthington and Alex Proyas are no longer involved.

The story centers on the legend of Vlad the Impaler, the Romanian royal who terrorized his countrymen, and served as the primary inspiration for Bram Stoker's novel Dracula. Michael De Luca is on board as a producer.

It isn't known when production will begin on Dracula Year Zero.

Dracula comes to theaters August 8th, 2014 and stars Luke Evans, Sarah Gadon, Dominic Cooper.

Is anybody else tired of Vampire and Werewolf movies yet? It's practically all been done. Why revisit old concepts again.

I see on several sites that Proyas other project, a film adaptation of John Milton's Paradise Lost, just got scrapped recently for "an out of control" budget.

I love Vampire's and I'm willing to see this when this comes out.
Christopher Lee did an amazing job as the villain even if some of the films were awful.

@titanictom While Christopher Lee was an excellent Dracula, Bela Lugosi is the only TRUE Dracula. Although, having said that my favorite portrayal is still Richard Roxburgh's in Van Helsing.

At any rate, I'm very much interested in seeing how this movie pans out.

Proyas is getting about as bad as Aronofsky in not seeing projects through to the end.

@SherlockHolmes2009 Did you mean Harker or this Dracula Year Zero? Harker is slated for release in 2014. Dracula Year Zero will probably be 2014 at the earliest, although I wouldn't be surprised if it fizzles out again.
