Dougray Scott to Star in The Day of the Triffids

According The Hollywood Reporter, Dougray Scott, Joely Richardson, Brian Cox, Vanessa Redgrave, Eddie Izzard and Jason Priestley will be starring in a TV remake of The Day of the Triffids.

In the made-for-TV-film Scott will play the role of Bill Maysen, a doctor who aids humans as they battle Triffids, "a flesh-eating vegetable originally used as an energy source."

"The incredible cast lined up for The Day of the Triffids is a testament to the quality of Patrick Harbinson's script. We hope audiences, both old and new, will be captivated by this modern take on John Wyndham's classic best-selling novel," stated Julie Gardner, BBC Wales head of drama.

The telefilm is based on John Wyndham's 1951 classic sci-fi novel. The script is written by Patrick Harbinson. It will run on BBC1 this year. RHI Entertainment will take care of the rights for the U.S.

LMAO, I remember this movie! I watched it when I was kid. If I remember correctly it was in black and white.

It's ashame this movie isn't getting a real studio behind it. The plot alone is amazing, I guess " killer plants" is a tough sell. The original is very underrated.
