Don LaFontaine Passes Away at 68

Movie Picture
Movie trailers will never be the same again. CBS is reporting that Don LaFontaine, the legendary voice of over 5,000 movie trailers, has passed away at the age of 68. The official cause of death wasn't released, but it was said to be due to complications from a collapsed lung.

Here's an excerpt from the bio on his official website:

Over the past 25 years, LaFontaine cemented his position as the "King of Voice-overs." Aside from his continuing work in the trailer industry, he has also been the voice of NBC, CBS, ABC, Fox and UPN, in addition to TNT, TBS and the Cartoon Network. By conservative estimates, he has voiced hundreds of thousands of television and radio spots, including commercials for Chevrolet, Pontiac, Ford, Budweiser, McDonalds, Coke, and many other corporate sponsors. At last count, he has worked on nearly 5000 films, including appearances as the in-show announcer for the Screen Actors Guild and Academy Awards. Based on contracts signed, he has the distinction of being perhaps the single busiest actor in the history of SAG.

LaFontaine is survived by his wife, singer/actress Nina Whitaker, and three children.

This guy made ANY movie sound like it was exciting. He made it seem like you had to be there. Dane Cook said it best when he imitated him for an imaginary movie called Tortilla Boy.

Imagine his voice saying "He was just a boy.... who needed to sell his tortillas.... but THEY got greedy and wanted him stopped..... He had no choice but to defend himself..... Arnold Schwarzenegger in..... THE TORTILLA BOY" haha

The guy could sell any trashy movie like it was the hottest ticket in town. He was good! Rest in Peace my man.
