Don Cheadle will star in Iron Man 3
"Q: Are there any future Marvel movies that you might be appearing in?
DC: Well the Iron Man 3 is coming back. We'll probably do that again in February and there's talk of a War Machine spinoff, which I guess, unless I get recast, I would probably do.

DC: Not this one that they're shooting right now. Thank god!

Iron Man 3 comes to theaters May 3rd, 2013 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Scarlett Johansson, Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Guy Pearce, Ben Kingsley, Jessica Chastain, James Badge Dale. The film is directed by Shane Black.
Marvel's The Avengers was released May 4th, 2012 and stars Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Jeremy Renner, Tom Hiddleston, Clark Gregg. The film is directed by Joss Whedon.

Not sure we need a War Machine film but I'm down for IM3. If he makes it into a future Avengers film fine but it will be pretty crowded with the current lineup involved already.

down time? from what? it's not like he's making a ton of movies or anything. but im not disappointed that he's not in AVENGERS. i dont think they're gonna have enough screen time for the people in it, nevermind war machine. unless he was in the iron man battle scene for a few minutes to help out I.M. or something. but not as a full on character.

I'm glad he's not in the Avengers, not because I dislike Don Cheadle (or War Machine, for that matter), but because they simply don't need him. There are enough characters in that film already. I also don't know if they need a War Machine spinoff, but that's another day's problem.
