Leonardo DiCaprio may play villain Calvin Candie in Django Unchained
The actor will reportedly play villain Calvin Candie in Django Unchained, according to Creative Screenwriting's Jeff Goldsmith. Take a look at his tweet below.
"Casting Rumor: Leonardo DiCaprio WILL play villian Calvin Candie in Tarantino's Django Unchained! QT wanted him for I.B. & now has him! #fb"
Another tweet from Variety's Jeff Sneider indicates this is not confirmed, although he heard the same rumor last week.
This is just the latest casting rumor surrounding Django Unchained. A report from earlier this month revealed Will Smith is up for the Django role, a freed slave in the Old West who hires a German bounty hunter to find his missing wife. Samuel L. Jackson is reportedly circling the role of Calvin Candie's house slave, while Christoph Waltz may play the bounty hunter.
None of these casting rumors have been confirmed at this time for Django Unchained.
Django Unchained was released December 25th, 2012 and stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jonah Hill, Samuel L. Jackson, Jamie Foxx, Kerry Washington, Christoph Waltz, Amber Tamblyn, Zoe Bell. The film is directed by Quentin Tarantino.

Either Quentin needs to say something or someone needs to sign something immediately to make it official(Hopefully at this moment as I'm speaking Will Smith signing on, And of course it would be cool if Leonardo Dicaprio signs on, imagine both of them going at it for the first time in a film together, using QT, dialogue). And as for Idris Elba, I like the guy and think he's a good actor, but Will should definitely get the lead, so he needs to hurry up with Men In Black3 and talk to Quentin.

I would looove to see DiCaprio pay the villain that is just brilliant. Casting against type can be a terrible idea but often times it leads to Oscar noms....Training Day anyone?

Also on another note, it wouldn't make any sense for Quentin to just diss Will for Idris anyway, The man signed on with Sony just to appeal to Will because that's his home company, Although Will hasn't officially signed on yet, if he really didn't want to do it he Quentin wouldn't have went with Sony, I really hope Will gets it though, and Elba gets a supporting role.

I agree @ theDude_Abides, Will is a much better choice for the lead Role, He's more of the leading man action hero type, If Idris Elba is in it hopefully it's a supporting role. Oh Yeah Leonardo would be great as a villain, it would be something totally different than from what he usually does. Yes I your also right Will, Leonardo, Christoph, and your forgetting Samuel would be a great super cast.

If he's truly in it then I will watch it for sure. I did some more digging on you Ottley and you are telling the truth so far, but this just sounds more like a rumor than the truth.

I prefer Smith. I wouldn't mind Elba, but, to me, he's obviously not the same caliber actor Smith is. I like what @ejk1 had to say about this news. It would be nice to see what a Tarantino movie would look like with a star-studded cast. And with a team headlined by Smith, Dicaprio, and Waltz, that's exactly how Django is shaping up.

No trust me the controversial project that Idris Elba was talking about is Django Unchained and the controversial director is Quentin Tarantino.
I think I would know, considering I'm friends and have worked with Elba

@J.P. It's just a rumor that Idris Elba is meeting up for a role although that role isn't known yet and plus He said he working on a controversial role for a controversial director, Quentin isn't really all that controversial, but Django subject matter kind of is, But still we do not know for certain. And in my opinion I really want Will Smith to sign up for this, I think this would be a great role for him, people really underestimate him. But I guess we'll just half to wait and see, But I do greatly hope that Will and Leonardo will sign on.

No probs moviewebbers
@jptheredskull last i heard is that they're trying to get both of them in because Tarantino wants both of them and his a fan of both of them, especially The Wire.
But my guess if it comes down to one or the other, i see Tarantino taking Elba, because its better from a financial perspective and well Tarantino is a massive fan of Elba.
The 1st paragraph comes from a primary source and the 2nd paragraph is my own opinion if it comes down to Tarantino having to choose one.

Leo desperately wanted to be a part of Inglourious Basterds 2 years ago, but the right role just wasn't there. I wouldn't be surprised if Quentin is making up for it with this movie.

With DiCaprio on-board, this film may be the one to get Tarantino his Oscars. Leo is the transcendent talent QT's films have not had as of yet, and to get him will be a great coup for him.

HELL YEAH, Leonardo should definitely do it, He would be great as a Villain. The casting news on this has been great so far, Although it is considered to just be rumors, But still I really hope Will Smith decides to do this, him facing off against possibly Samuel L Jackson & Leonardo Dicaprio would be SUPER BADASS, Like I said once again Hopefully they sign on especially Will Smith and Leornardo Dicaprio.
