D.J. Caruso Hints That He May Be in Talks to Direct Thor

Ever since it was reported that Matthew Vaughn was out, people have wondered who would end up directing Thor for Marvel Studios. Well, in an interview with our friends at IESB.net to discuss his new film, Eagle Eye, D.J. Caruso suggested that he might be up for taking over the film.

Asked if he would be interested in tackling a superhero film, Caruso said:
You know...I would definitely tackle it and I sort of wrestled with it before and I was always a fan of Thor growing up as a kid. I know that they [Marvel] have a script, but there's something, there's a fear I have about Thor and depending on what Thor story you want to tell, whether you want to bring Thor into the modern world or if you want to go back to Asgard and get the history of what's happening between him and his brother and dad. That's one I've always been interested in and it also would be, it would be a monumental task so, I could definitely see myself getting myself into that.

Following up, Caruso said that "I have had some talks with Marvel about it but I have not seen a screenplay. It could be something that I am interested in." So, while a Caruso-directed Thor isn't certain, it is looking like a distinct possibility.

When Vaughn was signed to direct, the script for Thor was more set in Asgard than on Earth. However, Vaughn's initial script would have been very costly to produce. Mark Protosevich was set to work on a re-write, which may end up being a more traditional superhero film with the god of thunder interacting more with the modern world.

Thor was released May 6th, 2011 and stars Chris Hemsworth, Natalie Portman, Tom Hiddleston, Anthony Hopkins, Stellan SkarsgÄrd, Kat Dennings, Clark Gregg, Idris Elba. The film is directed by Kenneth Branagh.

Hey, HHH can act. Didn't you see Blade: Trinity? I think he did pretty good in that. However, I'd rather he not be Thor. I'm still not sure who'd make a good Thor. Actually, after seeing Pitt in Troy, he might, but then you don't want someone who's such a big star as Pitt. It's tough to decide who'd be a good one.
