D.J. Caruso Finds Dead Space

In a story from Variety Electronic Arts is turning the popular video game Dead Space in to a feature film with D.J. Caruso (Eagle Eye) directing.

Currently, EA and Caruso are listening to pitches from potential screenwriters. The plan is to get a writer on board, figure out the creative nature of the film, and then auction the package to a willing studio. The is slated to happen in September.

Dead Space takes place in deep space in the 26th century. An engineer gets a distress signal from a mining ship and while responding to it comes across "monstrous creatures called Necromorphs." As you can guess things only get worse from there.

EA brought out Dead Space in 2008 and is presently putting together second and third installments.

Isaac never spoke one word during the game. They'd have to make his character a lot more "outgoing" to carry a film. We don't even know if it's going to be a direct adaptation of the game or just a story set in the Dead Space universe, so he may not be in it anyway.

Very scary game. DISTURBIA & EAGLE EYE, both very good movies. Let's hope D.J. Caruso makes this a very good and scary adaption.

I saw this coming like a nuclear bomb. Not surprised one bit, but I love it!!! :-D I can't wait for this to come out!

Such an awesome game. I haven't seen Disturbia OR Eagle Eye so I can't comment on the choice of director in Caruso, but this is gonna be a tough one to adapt. An animated film has already been established as a prequel. I read that this film will be set between the events of the first and upcoming second game. We'll see how it plays out.
