Disney's Miracle tops DVD charts

Movie Picture According to The Hollywood Reporter, Miracle, a film about the U.S. hockey team's road to victory during the 1980 Olympic Games -- starring Kurt Russell as coach Herb Brooks -- was the nation's No. 1-selling DVD and VHS in its debut week in release, selling nearly 2.5 million units to consumers, according to industry sources.

Disney Home Video's double-disc "Miracle" DVD was the nation's third-best-renting video, generating an estimated $8 million in gross consumer rental spending, according to Video Store magazine research.

HBO Home Video's "Do You Believe in Miracles? The Story of the 1980 U.S. Hockey Team" scored on the popularity of the Walt Disney Co.'s "Miracle" during the same frame, making it the ninth-best-selling DVD, according to Nielsen VideoScan's First Alert DVD sales chart for the week ending May 23. Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment's You Got Served was the nation's second-best-selling DVD its debut week out on home video, according to VideoScan.
