Disney threatens lawsuit over Brightspark Production's Braver
The studio sent a cease-and-desist letter demanding that Brightspark Productions withdraw the DVDs from the market, or else face legal consequences. Here is what Disney had to say in their official statement.
"People place great trust in the quality and creativity of Disney, and when it appears that another company is causing confusion among Disney consumers we will act to protect ourselves and the consumer. Disney believes Brightspark has demonstrated a pattern of misleading consumers with numerous releases that confuse and undermine the trust those consumers have in Disney."
Brightspark Productions replied with the following statement.
"All we've tried to do is give parents something their children will hopefully find entertaining. We came up with our title around 18 months ago and if we thought consumers would mistake our film for Brave, we would have renamed it."
The production company has released three other animated features with titles like Tangled Up (Tangled), The Frog Princess (The Princess and the Frog) and Little Cars (Cars)
Brave was released June 22nd, 2012 and stars Kelly Macdonald, Billy Connolly, Emma Thompson, Julie Walters, Robbie Coltrane, Kevin McKidd, Craig Ferguson, Sally Kinghorn. The film is directed by Mark Andrews, Brenda Chapman, Steve Purcell.

Brightspark are a bunch of con artists!
The film in question is actually a fairly obscure Canadian feature from 2005 called `A Fairy-tale Christmas.
So they didn`t even make it just renamed and repackaged it.
Think trading standards needs to have a few words with them.

@bawnian-dexeus You have no idea. I use to work at Blockbuster and at one point Asylum came out with their version of Sherlock Holmes which had on the cover:
A kraken tentacle
Fire breathing dragon
A T-Rex
No mention of Robert Downey Jr. or Jude Law
It came out only a couple months after Sherlock Holmes came out in theatres and I had to ask every moron that tried to rent it "You know this isn't the one with Robert Downey Jr., right?" You'd be amazed at how many people were surprised and put it back.
There were other times I had to return rented movies because idiots rented "Transmorphers" and thought it was "Transformers" then came back and yelled at me because they thought it was the Bay film.
Yeah this is necessary because people as a whole need protection from their own stupidity.

I call bullsh*t Brightspark Productions! You named your movie BRAVER 18 months ago, when you heard PIXAR was coming out with a movie called BRAVE dumbsh*ts! Your attempt at bankrolling on Disney & Pixar's success didn't work this time losers! I know, like they're really going to read this. :)

@justice-kowaleski Sometimes the rip off movie doesn't have to have a similar plot to the movie it's ripping off, the rip off to Prometheus that was made by Asylum had to do with aliens attacking soldiers in a forest while using found footage style of filming.

I'm surprised they haven't nailed the makers of Kiara The Brave and, get this, Ratatoing (yes, a movie about a rat chef). People who do this stuff (I'm looking at you, Asylum) should be absolutely ashamed of themselves. If your greatest ambition was to work on movies and you end up working on stuff like this, you are an utter failure.

@jimthar Yeah but Kiara The Brave didnt really have anything in common with Brave at all except for the main character having red hair. My little Sister watched Kiara the Brave and it was a very trippy Children's movie about talking Planets and stuff lol. so i can understand why Disney didn't sue over that movie.

I hate to point this put but there are other films that look similar to Brave however they do have different names. and there is another thing, the poster for Braver is spot on for one of the covers of the Last Apprentice. I've read most of the books but I heard that there are two new books and a spin off.
As for Braver, they do need to change the name.
