Disney Sells 1.3 Million Movie Downloads Via ITunes
In a story from Home Media Retailing, it seems the Walt Disney Co. has sold "1.3 million movie downloads on iTunes since making them available on the Apple platform last October."
Sales doubled on the internet portal for the company after it put such titles as Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest and Cars on the site.
All of this has happened despite fears from stores like Wal-Mart and Target that "digital distribution" might hurt their in store sales. The two stores mentioned possibly limiting Disney's presence on their DVD shelves, but thus far the stores haven't seen their bottom lines negatively affected.
"That tension is going to dissipate over time as we learn more about how that business is impacting the consumer," stated Disney CEO Robert Iger. "Have we had discussions with these retailers? Yes, absolutely. In general, our relationship with these retailers is in good shape. We are growing market share rather than moving business from one platform to another."
In addition to the movies sold via iTunes, "Disney has also sold 20 million television program downloads... since offering them on iTunes in late 2005."
Dont't forget to also check out: Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest
Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest was released July 7th, 2006 and stars Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Jack Davenport, Bill Nighy, Jonathan Pryce, Lee Arenberg, Mackenzie Crook. The film is directed by Gore Verbinski.
