Walt Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer to conclude first-look deal in 2014
The Walt Disney Studios and Jerry Bruckheimer have decided not to renew their first-look deal when it expires next year. Disney will continue to focus on its branded properties including Disney, Pixar, Marvel and now Lucasfilm, while Bruckheimer is looking to produce more mature films outside the scope of the Disney brand. Disney and Bruckheimer will continue working together on various projects including the fifth installment of Pirates of the Caribbean.

Together Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer have produced such blockbuster hits as the Pirates of The Caribbean and National Treasure films under the Disney brand as well as adult action dramas like Pearl Harbor, Armageddon, Con Air, and The Rock through the Touchstone label.

Walt Disney Studios Chairman Alan Horn had this to say.

"Jerry is one of the most respected and prolific producers working in the motion picture industry, and we have had an incredibly successful collaboration over the past two decades and he is a friend to many of us here at Disney. We will continue to work together in the future, and we look forward to seeing more of the films that have made Jerry Bruckheimer a Hollywood legend."

Jerry Bruckheimer also commented on the conclusion of the deal.

"I am very appreciative of the wonderful collaboration and support I have had at The Walt Disney Company for over twenty years and the twenty-seven movies we have made together. The good news is we will continue working together on Pirates of The Caribbean, National Treasure and other projects we have developed together at the studio. I am thankful to have had the opportunity to work with these amazing people at The Walt Disney Studios, many of whom have become my good friends. As we continue to make adventure films, we look forward to returning to films like Black Hawk Down, Enemy of the State, Beverly Hills Cop 4, and The Rock."

@bawnian-dexeus I couldn't agree more. If they had the Lone Ranger's budget set to at least $200 million and no higher then that, then there probably would have been no problem the budget. As for what budget they end up setting Pirates 5's budget at, they probably won't have it be any higher then $200 million. The $250 million-$290 million dollar budget that The Lone Ranger had, was not necessary and Jerry Bruckheimer had learned that the hard way.

This is what happens when you blow 250 million dollars on a western, which in turn has obviosuly affected Pirates 5 to make sure it doesn't happen again. Disregarding the financial success of the last 4 movies, another Lone Ranger and John Carter scenario isn't what the studio wants, even if they can afford to toss 150 million dollar losses into the air.

@artkid04 Definitely agree you about Pirates 5 and National Treasure 3. Good points you made there. Plus, They are currently working on Pirates 5's script again, so hopefully things work out great for it. Also, Yes, I hope so too that Penelope Cruz returns. I'm not sure that she will return though.

thinking about it now disney does have a lot more on its plate with the marvel cinematic universe and Star wars, making a good pirates movie is a sure reason as to why the release got delayed, but a national treasure 3, I don't see that happening anytime soon, in short, Disney doesn't have the money or time to spend on sequels to those movies, I have high hopes for Pirates 5, still wish penelope would return

@artkid04 At least Jerry Bruckheimer is still going to be the producer of Pirates 5, but with restrictions on the budget and other things regarding it like the editing for example.

because Lone Ranger bombed now they are parting ways with Jerry Bruckheimer, I love the pirate films but I doubt the new one is going to be any good, why? disney will probably never get it made because of their worry of how badly Lone Ranger bombed, this is how I see it

@themoviefanatic Sadly National Treasure 3 is now unlikely to happen at least for the foreseeable future.

At least Disney and Jerry Bruckheimer will still be making National Treasure 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales and maybe even a potential Pirates of the Caribbean 6 together.
