Director Tony Scott dies at age 68
According to L.A. Times, his body was pulled out of the water by Los Angeles Port Police, who were the first on the scene. Several witnesses told police they saw Scott get out of his Toyota Prius, which was parked on the bridge. Then he scaled an 8- to 10-foot fence and jumped off without any hesitation, law enforcement sources said.
A source said officials looked inside the car and determined it belonged to the famed action-movie director and producer. A note listing contact information was inside. A suicide note was later found in his office. Its contents were not revealed.
After directing short films and TV episodes in the 1970s, the filmmaker made his feature debut with The Hunger in 1983. His follow-up was the blockbuster Top Gun that put him and star Tom Cruise on the map. His other credits include Beverly Hills Cop 2, Days of Thunder, The Last Boy Scout, Crimson Tide, Enemy of the State, Man on Fire, and 2010's Unstoppable.
Tony Scott was also a prolific TV producer as well, serving as executive producer on Numb3rs and the current CBS hit series The Good Wife. He also produced The Andromeda Strain mini-series and The Pillars of the Earth.
The director was also developing the sequel Top Gun 2. He also executive produced the upcoming A&E mini-series Coma, with his brother Ridley Scott. He is survived by his wife, actress Donna W. Scott, and his twin sons.

There's little I can do in this situation, but express my own sorrow at such a passing. I grew up with some of Tony Scott's best films, and he still had plenty of talent in him. I truthfully can't pretend to know what may have driven him to such actions, but I can embrace his career and gift to film lovers the world over by enjoying his films as they should be enjoyed.
As for the people wondering hwy he might have killed himself if he was rich and famous... get some depth, people. I'm neither financially rich nor strongly successful at the moment, but I know that money and fame are fleeting at best, hollowing at worst. If anything, I dare say he might have had it harder, mentally, than most of us.

Loved The Last Boy Scout. That's too bad that he (obviously) felt there was no option. The bad news from the doctors must have hit him pretty hard. I hope he finds peace. Send good thoughts to Ridley Scott and the rest of Tony Scott's family. This will probably affect Ridley's future movies. I wonder is the Promethious sequel will have to wait. Well, one thing you can say about Tony Scott, he faced death down and went out the way of HIS choosing.

@Roy-Red Yeah, so crazy! In my head at this point, to me it just makes him more of badass. He went out his way, and not the way some terminal illness was going to dictate he should go.

Wow, I honestly don't know what to say. There is no way of telling what was going through his mind. We will never know what he was dealing with that would drive him to such an extreme. I've never condoned suicide. There's always someone closest to a person that suffers. My heart truly goes out to the family and their healing process. May his films go on to continue to touch generations of fans and aspiring film makers alike.

Do not grieve at the passing of mortality, for life's but a thing of terrible gravity. And the planets gravitate around you,and the stars shall dance about you, and the angels in heaven adore you, and the saints all stand and applaud you.
So faraway, so faraway and yet so close.

1. Your movies had prose, heart, noise, spectacle, Top Gun 2 was eagerly AWAITING YOUR BIDDING but when it was your time- as you must have felt i suppose we must take that much. But cinema has lost a genuine cinema icon, his flawless aesthetic, his jump cuts and spiraling edits that both inspired and bowled over Edgar Wright and Pegg. My heart goes out for his family, and i hope his legacy lives on RIP Tony. :(
