Director McG Still Wants to Do Terminator 5 and 6

McG Still wants more Terminator movies.
McG Still wants more Terminator movies.
Fans who own the Terminator Salvation Blu-ray were treated to a special BD-LIVE chat yesterday where director McG answered questions about the movie as well as the future of the Terminator Salvation franchise. Apparently, the director has claimed that he's still interested in directing a 5th and 6th chapter in the series.

This comes as a bit of confusion seeing how the Terminator franchise is to be sold by February, according to last week's announcement by the Halcyon Holding Group:

"Over the past few weeks, Halcyon and its professionals have engaged in in-depth discussions and negotiations with numerous serious potential buyers, including several major movie studios," Halcyon stated. "In addition, a number of attractive refinancing alternatives have also been presented. In order to maximize the value of a transaction for all of the company's creditors and stakeholders, we are fully analyzing all these options."

Of course, the general consensus is that fan boys didn't enjoy the McG'd Terminator, and with a budget of over $200 million, and a worldwide take of only $374 million, the proof is in the pudding.

Terminator Salvation was released May 21st, 2009 and stars Christian Bale, Sam Worthington, Moon Bloodgood, Helena Bonham Carter, Anton Yelchin, Jadagrace, Bryce Dallas Howard, Common. The film is directed by McG.

I liked Salvation. I thought it was a good lead-in to what the remaining chapters will be. As well McG said he was going back to basics with T5 and T6. Time Travel, Terminators, etc.

Lol. Everyone here with brains.. I agree with you. Give McG another chance he did really good under the circ*mstances (fans sending him hate letters, studios getting mysterious rewrites, pretty much like the pre-production of Transformers 1 for fanboys) and Bale was a bit "wooden" but he did good in my opinion. To be honest changing him would be stupid but I would like to see someone who nails John Conner perfectly and stick with him, instead of recasting, so maybe one last recast for Conner.

Other than that, all you need to do is get id of the writers. Bale, Jonathon Nolan and McG made rewrites to the script from the same writers of T3, which we all know was crap. It could have been way worse. I say let McG and Nolan take it over completely, and lets see the magic. That's my two cents.

Oh, and btw, Replace Common's character (if he even returns) with someone like Idris Elba, because even with his few lines, he still stank.

More to the point, it's not about Arnold traveling back in time anymore.

halo wars, it is about Connor. His the savior of the entire human race. How is this guy not a big part.

I thought Bale did a decent job for the little amount of screen time he saw. Its not about John Connor now. Its about how the Resistance puts the pieces into gear that sparked the events in the original movies. Connor's going to play second fiddle for the majority of this new trilogy.

I didn't have a real problem with Bale's acting in TS. You could say he was wooden, but that could have been more of a function of what he's experienced in life, could it not? Linda Hamilton's character became a lot harder between the first and second films too.

I know Bale assisted, but it seems as if more are attacking his acting than his screenplay, which with McG being the guy making the thing then I'd think he'd have paid better attention to the flaws.

And that's a good point on your post below this newkill. I thought McG already had a trilogy deal bagged & tagged.

I was just about to say that McG and Bale re-wrote the screenplay, but Newkill beat me to it. But it doesn't matter, because I loved Salvation anyway.

Slysnide, Bale assisted with the screenplay. Also, T4 is becoming the poster child of plot holes. I bet if anyone would watch the first two you'll also find plot holes as well. There were never really three dimensional characters in the Terminator franchise. Maybe except Sarah but that's it.

actually penguin_9026, the reason most didn't care for T4 was because it had zero character development with anyone returning for 5&6, and John Connor was the same all the way through. Acting like he was tough as nails and like he was all that, but contrary to popular belief, this wasn't Bale's fault, it was the screenplay's.

I loved Salvation. Cameron's out of the picture right now, and quite frankly, I'd rather see McG finish what he started. Salvation was the start of something different, view it as that. It wasn't Arnold killing a bunch of people for the fourth time, it was a fresh entry into this franchise and McG did a fine job with it.

I didnt see the movie in the theater, mainly due to my finacial issues. But i did rent it from red box this weekend. I do think there could have been more, future esk, fighting, since T2 judgement day everyone wants to see that kind of movie. But the story was ok, and I liked Bale in it. There was not much of him, even with him being the main character of the terminater franchise, but i would love to see what McG does in a 5 and 6. I only suggest there be more gorrilla fighting with the machines. I thought the game was weak that was based on the movie. Alot of it was way easy, or way cheesy. But the fighting idea was what the movie should use in the 5th and so on in the line if they are made.

Chad Vital is correct. The reason Cameron hasn't been involved in the last two films isn't because he didn't have the opportunity but because he wasn't interested. The reality is that Cameron doesn't want to make another Terminator film, so unless you accept someone else as writer/director, you should be of the belief that the series should be put to rest.

Why is everyone so horny over Cameron, it's highly unlikely he isn't gonna "take over" the franchise. I know you guys are dreaming but that's all it is.

I enjoyed Salvation. I thought it was a great beginning to a new trilogy. Very solid movie with great action scenes the whole way. From what I've heard though is that Summit or Sony will end up buying this franchise and redoing Salvation with a new director and new John Connor. Although another rumor states that Bale has no intentions to play the role of Connor again anyways.

I cant deny true talent, Matrix12 is absolutely right, this man literally gave birth to the series and set it up for something good, T# was ok and it had kinda been ahnging since then, pay the man he wants and get a good film, if not, you get what you deserve

Please read the review I posted on here about this movie and you all will understand why McG shouldnt be allowed within shouting distance of anything terminator or anything that rhymes with it. I was fine with no Arnie and having Bale as the lead, but that movie was so sh*tty. For real guys. There are much better directors out there that can give a much more compelling story.

I think most people didn't like it because it actually had some type of moral to the story unlike the other ones. This was about redemption, about Marcus getting a 2nd chance, which I thought was very heartful and great. I know people don't believe in that stuff anymore so maybe that's why everyone hates it who knows. I like movies like that. Movies that have a meaning to it, have purpose.
