Director Eric Brevig Takes on William Tell 3D

Journey to the Center of the Earth director Eric Brevig has signed on to helm William Tell 3D, which has Brendan Fraser attached to star.

Eric Brevig replaces Nick Hurran on William Tell 3D, who left for unknown reasons. The project is expected to start shooting next spring in Romania. Here's an early teaser poster and a description of the plot from the movie's distributor, Arclight Films.

William Tell 3D Poster

"Brendan Fraser (The Mummy, Journey to the Center of the Earth) and director Eric Brevig (Journey to the Center of the Earth, Yogi Bear) are reuniting for the untold story of the legend that is William Tell - noble farmer, quick-witted family man, cunning hero, scruffy outlaw - in 3D.

In an age of oppression and tyranny, Tell (Brendan Fraser) is forced to rise up against those who threaten his lands and family. The governor of Switzerland lies dying, and Austrian Hermann Gessler is waiting to take his place. Try as he might, Tell cannot keep himself out of the conflict that ensues, and soon finds his own wife and children embroiled in it. Refusing to bow to a tyrant, he is forced to shoot an apple off the head of his own son - and then he swears revenge. It is the inspiration of a nation, and the stuff of legend.

Combining the stylized action of Sherlock Holmes and the fun for the whole family thrills of Pirates of the Caribbean."

Chad Law and Ethan Law wrote the script for William Tell 3D, which will be shot with a $27 million budget.

William Tell 3D comes to theaters in 2012 and stars Brendan Fraser. The film is directed by Eric Brevig.

@XxNickTheFilmCriticXx Well, my opinion, it really depends on the product. We know that animated films like Dreamworks, Pixar and Disney are worth the 3D and the majority go with that platform. But sometimes films like these, one thinks that adding the third dimension really is not worth it or necessary. Like for biopics. Why in the world would we want to see someone's story told in 3D? And even if I said that the animated features can benefit from the 3D, at first it will make money, but in then, people will simply prefer to go the 2D route for the remainder. Movies with it may get an initial boost, but the rest will be 2D. That's how I see it.

@bawnian-dexeus -- Because they get "that much" more money, of course. This movie will be terrible, just look at the teaser poster/cast.
