Director David Yates Has Been Confirmed for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince
Before working on JK Rowlings popular franchise, Yates was best known for helming the U.K. Miniseries State of Play and The Girl in the Café. He recently had this to say about the upcoming Potter film, "I am doing Half-Blood Prince, and I'm doing it because I love the world, I love the characters. I think I have more business with this world and these characters."
The film has some political overtones, focusing itself on a rebellion at the Hogwarts Academy. Yates attests, "I've made a kind of tonal shift with the fifth film, which I want to continue and develop into the sixth film. And I can see the fifth story evolving into the sixth story in a really interesting way. So I'm on a journey with this material and this world, and I'm keen to complete it."
David follows director Chris Columbus in that he is only the second Harry Potter director to attach himself to more than one of the films.
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix opens this summer, on July 13th. A 2008 release is planned for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. The seventh and final book in Rowling's series, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, will be available in most book stores on July 21, 2007.
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince was released July 15th, 2009 and stars Daniel Radcliffe, Michael Gambon, Dave Legeno, Elarica Gallacher, Jim Broadbent, Geraldine Somerville, Bonnie Wright, Julie Walters. The film is directed by David Yates.
