Director Attached to Voltron: Defender of the Universe

Movie Picture
Last week we reported that Voltron: Defender of the Universe was put into turnaround, with Relativity Media joining the robot project with plans for a more moderate budget ala 300. Producers still had not nailed down a director, but now, according to Latino Review, they have finally attached a director: Max Makowski (Queer Eye for the Straight Guy).

Adapted by scribe Justin Marks, Voltron: Defender of the Universe is based on the popular 1980s Japanese animated TV series, comic books and toy line. The new take is described as a post-apocalyptic tale of survival set in New York City and Mexico.

In the animated series, five Galaxy Alliance pilots control vehicles shaped like lions that combine and form the massive sword-wielding Voltron robot in order to battle an evil menace.

Voltron: Defender of the Universe is in development .

Yeah, everything that comes out of Japan is a rip off of something else in Japan, and if you look at all of the big titles; Voltron, Power Rangers, Sailor Moon, Battle of the Planets, etc...it's all based on one thing; Red, Blue, Black, Green, Pink, Yellow, White (and so on and so forth). It's a colour scheme that's been done, always works, and makes money. Now lets put that money to use and make a kick ass movie, and not the horrible remake of Voltron that was all CGI and came out less than 10 years ago.
Now, I'd love to see who they pick for the cast, any guesses? (Seth Green would make a great Pidge).

I KNOW it was before Power Rangers, I was merely stating that the concept was much like the one that the Power Rangers used being that the robots form a giant one.

First statement: Queer Eye for the Straight Guy director?...this isn't movie based on fashion, and I don't want to see/hear the Voltron Force walking around with lisps, time to petition for a new director.
Second Statement: Voltron came long before transformers, and long before Power Rangers. Voltron is actually based out of Toronto, Ontario. This is stated in the new comic book series, Voltron: A Legend Forged. The Galaxy Garrison for all of Voltron is in a future version of Toronto (but Voltron: Vehicle Force is based out of Earth, while Voltron: Lion Force is from the planet Arus). So, if anyone wants to know more about the history of Voltron, go to www.voltron.com, this will also tell you about the original Voltron "GOLION", from Japan, which the series was based on. And another series called Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs, which is a precursor to Power Rangers...in the wild west.

This is NOT a rip off of Transformers. I'm really tired of hearing that. Voltron is more of a Megazord sorta thing, and if I'm correct Voltron was here long before Transformers. Just because it's giant robots doesn't automatically make it a rip off of Transformers.

Love Voltron, don't go for Queer Guy, never been fussed on Hollywood adapting (stealing then mutalating) classic asain cinema and t.v.. I get a Thunderbirds vibe here. Lots of pretty colours and too much make up.

I'm still not thrilled about the the move to make Voltron domestic instead of taking place on an alien world, but I'm giving this one an optimistic view for now.

agreed..... why must hollywood always make changes to the original storyline and settings? I knew it was only a matter of time before they got to Voltron.. I only pray that some justice will be done.

"he new take is described as a post-apocalyptic tale of survival set in New York City and Mexico." What the f*ck are they thinking? This isn't some friggin' tale about survival, Voltron series was set on a post-apocalyptic world, but it wasn't set in Mexico or NYC...

and i was looking forward to see some alien vs lion action! Thank you f*ckers you just ruined Voltron, one of the most awesome robots in history of mnakind.

Are you fricken' kidding me? Max Makowski? All I know about him is his affiliation with Queer Eye, and he probably created the series. If these aliens invade earth to transform us into the most stylish species the Milky Way has ever seen, and their leader is Carson, I'm going to be so pissed.

Queer eye for the straight guy? That's bad, but the fact that marks, who is making a name for himself with toy based scripts(he's also writing masters of the universe), gives me some hope. But the fact that we know nothing about this guy isn't comforting either. At this point all we can do is hope for the best.
