Dimension Planning Short Circuit Remake

Dimension Films has acquired the rights to Short Circuit with the intent to remake the 1986 film.

According to Variety, the original film introduced audiences to Number 5, a robot built by the military to be a highly sophisticated weapon. It developed a conscience and a personality after being hit by lightning, and then needed the help of humans after it was targeted for destruction by its makers, once it became a peacenik.

S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock, who created the characters and wrote both Short Circuit films, have been hired to write the remake.

No word on when production will begin.

I agree entirely with Joker 2010. I'm all for carrying on some popular franchises if they do a meaningful job of it(Superman Returns for instance). But remaking films? Never really seems to work, it only alienates fans of the original. Short Circuit was a mid 80's film through and through. Leave something for nostalgia please Hollywood.

Now I've seen everything! What's next a remake of Batteries Not Included?
Hollywood is really cashin' in on these remakes of 70/80's flics. I'm afraid they won't stop until every good movie I grew up with is remade into a modern day CGI soulless piece of crap!

"I would'nt mind seeing a re-make to JAWS, STAR WARS(1977), and CLOSE ENCOUNTERS OF THE THIRD KIND. I KNOW they are classics, but I would like to see some new CGI and better film grain. Just a thought and not a petition." ok CivilCowboy, that&#180s sacrilegy, but im not surprised with that pic of yours

Original movie still has it, no need for a remake here in my opinion. Will not stop me from checking it out, but probably on DVD, not the theater.

Yeah, if they were directed by the same people, or at least co-directed or something. Like with this, the guy who created the characters and wrote the other films is writing this. As for the movie itself, i have no idea what it is, it was before my time, like most movies that are remaked. lol

You have got to be sh*ttin' me!! I really enjoyed the first movie and it certainly has it's place in the 80's. The second one was pretty bad.

Can't we come up with something original?! I'm sure they're going to overly trick this thing out so it's super kid friendly. The only good thing this effort will produce is a new special edition DVD of the original. End of story.
