I have read most of the comments and there is not much I can say that everyone has not all ready said. But I will point out that some one said that this is the Jaws of werewolf movies and now some one out there is going to think of remaking Jaws. This is how it is going to keep going remake or sequel that is how Hollywood makes the big bucks and they will keep doing it till people stop going to the movies. So any thing anyone has to say will not stop them from making these movies.

Dimension must really be desperate to remake this classic. Me and my brother spent a lot of our childhood watching this film on tv. Hopefully they make the werewolves like the ones from Underworld. This remake could have the potential to be a bad ass movie.

I'm trying to think of my favorites. Obviously, AMERICAN WEREWOLF IN LONDON, in my opinion, is the greatest werewolf movie ever made. THE HOWLING was good, albeit tongue-in-cheek at times. SILVER BULLET was good, too (hey, you can't beat Gary Busey fighting a werewolf!). The original THE WOLF MAN was a classic in every sense and set the atmosphere for the werewolf genre (foggy mist, gypsies, irony, and mystic whispers of the wolf man as a tragic figure ["the way you walked was thorny through no fault of your own"]. WOLF with Jack Nicholson was good. THE COMPANY OF WOLVES was weird, but artistic. Anybody see CURSE OF THE WEREWOLF? It's an oldie, but goodie! Outside of the wonderful DOG SOLDIERS, there hasn't been a good werewolf movie in a long time. Did I miss any other good werewolf movies?

The Howling was made in 1980 and was released in 1981 on April 10th.
I remember now I was 10 at the time.

Yes, The Howling was frightening back then. I remember seeing the first film when I was eight years old, it scared me badly. New Moon and the rest were lame and stupid.
I don't know the year Howling was made in but I'll find out right away.

Wasn't The Howling made in '81? ha ha...just for fun last year I netflix'd all the Howling sequels. Terrible waste of talent with Christopher Lee in part 2. Laughable at most. Part 7 was strangely bizarre (even for this genre). I found myself drawn into a world of George Jones, country line-dancing, and chili farts. You didn't even see the damn werewolf until the end and only about five seconds at that. Weirdo-bizarre movie.

Indeed it did Todd (lol, i sound like a posh snob).

But Howling was an average faired werewolf film, the first was good, what came after, the first, were awful.
American Werewolf In London, revolutionised the werewolf genre because it was the first werewolf film were we see a human go from human form to werewolf form on-screen, thanks to the awesome effects of Rick Baker.

    I agree, the_gray.
Although The Wolfman ain't from my childhood, i watched the film many a times and loved it, and was pretty annoyed when i heard the announciation of the remake.
But when the names of the cast and crew started coming out, i realised that this film is in very good hands and looks to stand as the most successful remake yet for a fan's perspective point of view and i hope profit wise.
In fact i think that 'The Wolfman' is the only remake i'm anticipating, lol with a cast like Benico Del Toro, Anthony Hopkins and last but not least Rick Baker as SFX designer, what ain't there to look forward to with this remake?

Actually The Howling came first since it was made in the late 1960's, then the American Werewolf came out. I only watch certain remakes not all of them, there is no point to them.

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! I agree with Ottley - it's the JAWS of all werewolf movies! They are indeed taking it too far! This movie is a staple of my youth! Remaking THE WOLF MAN - cool (because, although a classic, it's really old). Remaking a classic that's younger than I am - not cool. I will not see it and will not support all the remakes from Hollywood with their CGI and talentless young actors.

This could be great (or just a frikkin' mess). The original is a pretty intelligent "monster movie", great , good acting and (at times) scary too. I don't want them to go all CGI crazy though. One of the coolest things about the original is the Rick Baker effects. With Landis onboard maybe there will be some good sequels? We can put "American Werewolf in Paris" behind us.

Wow just wow, the film that revolutionised the werewolf genre, remade.

They are taking remakes too far now, ok this could be done with better CGI, but this is a classic.
Its like the jaws of all werewolf movies
