I wasn't quite sure what to expect when I pulled up to the Santa Monica offices of Jerry Bruckheimer Films. I mean, this is the man who has brought us blockbuster after blockbuster for nearly 30 years, and yet when I arrived at the building, it was about as unassuming on the outside as it was impressive on the inside. As I waited for the rest of the press group to arrive, I was amazed at the sheer size of the place... and the random dog trotting about the lobby, which I learned later was actually one of Jerry Bruckheimer's dogs. But we weren't there to marvel at his taste in office decor, we were there to take a look at the brand new trailer for the latest in his seemingly never-ending string of blockbusters, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, which is set for a May 28, 2010 release. We were lead into the screening room and Jordan Mechner, who created the video games the film is based on, and Bruckheimer himself introduced the trailer for us. They both talked about how the trailer still wasn't exactly finished yet, which goes to show you how much attention to detail the man has, because it looked pretty damn good to me.
We open on Dastan (Jake Gyllenhaal) standing atop a rooftop cathedral cross, in a slick 360-degree shot and then we learn through voiceover that the Gods have a plan for Dastan. We get a rather amazing shot of Dastan with the mysterious Dagger of Time, which can release the Sands of Time and allow the possessor to control space and time and, essentially, rule the world. To stop the evil forces that seek the Dagger, Dastan must team up with a rival princess named Tamina (Gemma Arterton) who, as we're shown in the trailer, form an unlikely alliance and, of course, the possibilities of romance. We also see other key members of the cast here such as Ben Kingsley as Nizam and Alfred Molina as Sheik Amar, and I have to say that this is one hell of a trailer.
The film really feels like a revamped version of an Indiana Jones film, only this is set centuries before and also has the benefit of the amazing special effects and cutting-edge technology. It's also quite fitting since Mechner created the first game in 1989 off a heavy influence from the film Raiders Of The Lost Ark. However, fans of that 1989 original should know that the film was based off the more modern Sands of Time game Mechner created, and not the original game. Still, this really does look like a film that could easily spawn a blockbuster franchise and - despite the numerous misgivings many had about the casting of Jake Gylennhaal - it truly does look like he pulls off this Dastan character in wonderful fashion, and they did a nice job in the trailer teasing the chemistry between Dastan and white-hot newcomer Gemma Arterton's Tamina.
So you want to see this new trailer for yourself? Well, we can't post it for you now, but be sure to check back early next week where we'll have the brand new full trailer plus our roundtable interview session with both producer Jerry Bruckheimer and video game creator Jordan Mechner.

Me too. I like how he has a boner for the actual trailer though lol. It's probably a good trailer, but people will still talk sh*t regardless when they see it.

that is such a misleading heading lol i was expecting a trailer and got nothing :( ah well maybe with the power hungry Disney and adventurous Jerry Bruckheimer behind this a video game adaptation will have some cash to make it look better....saw a photo of Jake and Gemma she was jumping through this fountain or bed of water she looked hot, looked white instead of arab but whatever, i could careless of them trying to get that ethnicity down
