Denzel Washington to Star in The Book of Eli

Denzel Washington will star in the futuristic drama The Book of Eli for directing team Allen and Albert Hughes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros.-based shingle Alcon Entertainment is financing the project and will co-produce with Silver Pictures.

The post-apocalyptic drama is based on a story by Gary Whitta, and scripted by Anthony Peckham, and focuses on the not-so-distant future where America is a wasteland and a lone warrior (Washington) fights to bring society the knowledge that is key to its redemption.

Filming starts in January in New Mexico.

The Book of Eli was released January 15th, 2010 and stars Denzel Washington, Gary Oldman, Mila Kunis, Ray Stevenson, Jennifer Beals, Evan Jones, Joe Pingue, Frances de la Tour. The film is directed by Albert Hughes, Allen Hughes.

    I love how they say "not-so-distant future" like they're trying to insinuate america's goin down the crapper...newsflash hollywood, we KNOW it is, so unless ur future movies involve an earth ruled by aliens or robots or both, stop reminding us that our country is starting to suck

    The Book of Eli? Excuse me but haven't we heard this one? Er seen this one? FREEDOM DEEP! With a new Final Directors Version about to be released and the original having screened throughout on TV and DVD what is the point? Denzel Washington? (the new Charles Bronson of mono facial expressions and reactions). The 2 directors of From Hell? What the hell? it took 2 directors to make that?
