DEG Names Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest Best Theatrical DVD of 2006

Movie PictureThe Digital Entertainment Group bestowed some major honors at the Consumer Electronics Show.

In a story from The Hollywood Reporter, Buena Vista Home Entertainment's Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest took the honor of "best theatrical DVD of 2006 at the annual DEG: The Digital Entertainment Group awards" on Monday.

Warner Brother's Superman Ultimate Collector's Edition "picked up top honors for catalog DVD of the year in the DEG's Creative Excellence Awards."

Image Entertainment won for TV-DVD title of the year with Twilight Zone: The Complete Definitive Collection. Sony's Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children Special Edition won top honors in the direct-to-DVD category. Paramount's Neil Young: Heart of Gold took home Best Music DVD award.

Lastly, the DEG, for the first time, gave awards to both Blu-ray and HD-DVD. Sony's Black Hawk Down nabbed the top Blu-ray Disc title of the year, while Warner Home Video won the best HD-DVD honors with Batman Begins.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest was released July 7th, 2006 and stars Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, Keira Knightley, Jack Davenport, Bill Nighy, Jonathan Pryce, Lee Arenberg, Mackenzie Crook. The film is directed by Gore Verbinski.
