Deadpool Gets Director Tim Miller

Visual effects artist Tim Miller will make his directorial debut with Deadpool
Visual effects artist Tim Miller has signed onto direct 20th Century Fox's Deadpool, which will mark his directorial debut.

Tim Miller has previously worked within the mutant franchise, working on both X-Men and X2: X-Men United in the visual effects department. Directors such as Robert Rodriguez and Adam Berg were in contention to direct Deadpool, although no deals were ever reached for either filmmaker.

Ryan Reynolds will star in Deadpool, reprising his 'Merc With a Mouth' character Wade Wilson from X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Producer Lauren Shuler Donner revealed last month that Deadpool will be a reboot of the character. Here's what she had to say below.

"It's a total reboot. We're either going to pretend that X-Men Origins: Wolverine didn't happen, or mock it, which he could do. It's insane, it's definitely comedy. But it's an R script, it's really irreverent and violent. Right away, we're out of the X-Men world. He's very involved, Ryan Reynolds. He's working with the writers on the screenplay and it is as much his as it is ours. I'm tellin' ya, it's true to the comic. You'll see all of them. You'll see Wade Wilson, the good-looking Ryan Reynolds! You'll see Deadpool in his costume and you'll see the cancer-scarred face. We're looking for a director."

With a director now attached, it seems Fox is looking to start production in the near future, although a start date was not revealed yet. Zombieland screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick wrote the script for Deadpool.

Deadpool is in development and stars Ryan Reynolds.

@jptheredskull...Sweet, thats the only way i can see Deadpool being, no PG-13

@bane5000 Ryan Reynolds made it known at Wondercon that the script that they have, which everyone loves, is a "Hard R" script filled with comedy, action, gore, and 4th wall breaking.

I have high hopes for this film and i know i shouldn't but IF it stays rated-R then it's going to be awesome!!!!

Has anyone else seen the news that the title of the movie could be X-Men Origins:Deadpool...im not joking, its on other sites already

Well, let's be realistic. Most of the material in the Deadpool comics is hard PG13, because all the profanity is censored.

It's interesting to hear this is still in the pipeline, since Reynolds himself didn't seem entirely certain in a recent Empire interview. Great news though, since his fantastic smartass was the best thing for me about the 'Wolverine' movie. This may be a lot of fun :)

Tim Miller are they sure they want him. His visuals are great but directing is another thing

I'm glad they're approaching this correctly, but I'm definitely iffy on the director. Here's hoping, seeing as how DP is my favorite anti-hero.

Visual effects artists usually make pretty bad directors (Andrew Adamson is a rare exception). We got Eragon, Alien vs Predator requiem, etc because visual effects guys directed. Visual effects is really its own thing, just because someone is good at visuals doesn't mean they'll do well with the narrative and the characters.

This is shaping up to be something very faithful to the original character and not the sh*te we saw in X Men Origins. The only proper way to do a Deadpoll movie is with an R rating. Crisses fingers.

The only way I'm seeing this is if they go the direction Kick-Ass went. Smart and stylish with some dark rated R comedy.

But if Green Lantern ends up being the successful franchise the studio is expecting (and I'm sure it will be), I'm willing to bet anything that Ryan Reynolds doesn't stay on board with Deadpool... Fingers crossed though.

FOX better keep it Rated R, and not announce a month or two before release " ummm, its gonna PG-13 afterall everyone "

This is going to be really weird, but I'm on board. You certainly can't take this character too seriously, so maybe an R comedy is the way to go.

It's not only that the dude has no directorial experience, but add on to that, that this is going to be a comedy and that opens up a whole other can of worms. You don't just learn comedic timing over night. It's not like there's a limited number of directors out there that couldn't have done this. It had been better to put together a short list before they got a nobody. Sounds like Fox was just in a hurry to push this project forward.

hmm feel kinda iffy having someone with no directinal experiance, but hey, a guy has got to start somewhere, and usually they want to start big, so lets hope this guy takes the merc with a mouth to an awesome level, excided to have this moving along btw

as long as they stay true to his look and origin ill be happy, not like what they tried to do with the character in XO, it was ok, but i want the real Deadpool...glad theyre also sticking with him having cancer and being scarred under his costume

I can't believe there are still websites that are stating Ryan Reynolds involvement is "questionable". He made it completely obvious at WonderCon this year that he is heavily involved. Looking forward to this movie. RR is simply perfect for this role.
