Producer Sean Daniel picks-up theatrical rights to Dead Island
The Sean Daniel Company snatched up the rights to the game as soon as the trailer in question, which depicts a young girl vacationing with her family when a zombie outbreak occurs, became a viral sensation.
The storyline of the game, and presumably the upcoming movie, sounds a lot like Uwe Boll's video game adaptation House Of The Dead. The action takes place at the fictional Royal Palms Resort in Banoi, Papua New Guinea, with a group of partying vacationers awakening one morning to find the island infested with flesh-hungry zombies. They must then contend with the ensuing chaos.
Techland, the company releasing the Dead Island video game, have made it clear that the scenes witnessed in the trailer do not occur within the game itself.
There is no scheduled start date for production at this time. You can check out the controversial video game trailer for Dead Island below.

This trailer was awesome. I love zombie stuff so this is something i will keep my eyes on. The music was great and i especially loved the hanged corspe in the title shot.
I know everyone is scrambling for zombies or vampires these days but its ok to let it go for a while. How can you build interest if you keep shoveling these things down the audiences throat?

Christ - The Mummy and The Wolfman are literally two of the worst films I've ever seen. Both had me within seconds of walking out of the cinema and the only other film that's ever had that effect was Beverly Hills Cop 3.
Judging by 'that' trailer - this needs to be 18/R rated and as badass as it gets.
Don't want no Scorpion king mofo ruining this...

@jasonkat watch 28 Days later, 28 Weeks Later and Dawn of the Dead (remake AND original).. they're my favorite zombie movies. Zombieland and The Walking Dead are really good too

@thebd haha sorry, man, but I'm tired of Zod.

Zombies used to scare the daylights out of me but not anymore. I got used to them over the years, the same with vampires and Werewolves.
I tried watching Being Human yesterday and there was way too much talk and it was boring.
I gave Supernatural another chance and it's better without the heaven, hell war.

The stories told in most video games today, are way better than the movies we see today. Some games should win an oscar ;P

@dan1 oh no, u have to go back to Zod, that was my favorite picture of anyone's one this site, sorry i just had to get that out of the way.
And for anyone who can't understand y anyone wants to make a movie of this trailer just watch it again. that sh*t was sad, compelling and emotional. u make a connection to the characters based solely on music and the unique way they represent the story.
i'm not saying it is wise to make a movie based on a trailer to a game, but i'm saying i can understand the appeal, at least in this case since that sh*t got me depressed and emotionally connected to the three characters within under 3 minutes.

I just remebered the best zombie movie i ever saw that was actually good. dawn of the dead.

i dont remember the last zombie movie i saw that was actually worth watching. Resident evil. kool movies but not scary enough (at all) for me. land of the dead was way to action and not enough scares. I think zombie games r way scaryer than films cause u never know whats gonna pop out. This game trailer looks very good, and im sure the game will b from the looks of a preview. Now For the film. i REALLY want it to follow watever route the game is. LESS action, and MORE scaryness. Yea i dont mind ass-kicking people trying to save them selfs but geez do they all have to b so good at fighting? lol in reality not everybody can fight. At the same time make it beliveable. scary and just diff from other films we already seen b4.

I don't get it. Sure the trailer was cool but no one even knows how good the game will be. What is it sucks beyond all comparison? I can't believe someone wants to make a movie based off of a video game trailer. I mean was it a comic book or novel originally?

"UPDATED, 2/19/11: Deep Silver has issued a press release stating that, contrary to what Deadline and Variety both reported above, the film rights to Dead Island have not yet been sold. Here's part of their statement: "Deep Silver has received a massive amount of interest in the film adaptation rights to the Dead Island IP. Contrary to rumors that have been circulating, neither the film rights nor any other licenses have yet been sold by Deep Silver, which is the sole IP holder of the Dead Island brand."
