According to Variety Disney nabbed the rights to a new telling of The Diary of Anne Frank. The project will be written and directed by David Mamet (Redbelt).

This new rendition will be "an amalgamation of the famed diary; the stage adaptation by Albert Hackett and Frances Goodrich; and Mamet's own original take on the material" that will look at this tragic tale as young girl's coming of age story.

Anne Frank died at 15 in the Bergen-Belsen concentration camp during the Holocaust. She became known the world over after the post-war publication of her diary. She kept it for two years as her family hid from the Nazis in an attic apartment in Amsterdam.

Mamet is currently writing the script.
